I’m just watching the SATC episode where Samantha is dating the black guy and his sister warns her off because she’s white. Can’t imagine a scene like that going down well in And Just Like that!
I mean, it was a bit racist but it’s a way to integrate societal issues into the show in a way they didn’t feel forced! It was quite bold to include especially for those times

Oh I agree it was very bold especially for its time. It just wouldn’t happen now in AJLT.
Yeah that’s what’s so sad, there’s no reason you can’t make race relations etc funny and a bit edgy as long as you’ve had a sensitivity reader glance over it to make sure you’re not coming at it from (for example) a purely white perspective. I read an interesting article about jokes being banned from the Edinburgh fringe as they were about gay people and it was ‘punching down’- the opinion piece writer said surely it’s only punching down if you think that the group being targeted is some way less than you? If we’re all equal what’s wrong with jokes about people’s sex or race or sexual orientation as long as it’s not hate speech 🤷🏻‍♀️

I just watched the episode last night where Carrie and Samantha get the train to San Francisco and Carrie is being peak selfish and even kicks Samantha out of the bath in the hotel so she can have sex with Big. Samantha delivers one of my all time fave Samantha lines when she sees the deluxe sleeper cabin on the train “I’m starting to understand why there was a murder on the Orient Express”. Her delivery is just perfect 😂 how the writing can deteriorate so much from SATC to AJLT is mind blowing.

Another thought from my SATC rewatch..I couldn't help but wonder: how long was Carrie actually with Aidan? The series ran from 1998-2004 and it was roughly in real time I think. Her first Aidan stint seems like barely a couple of months and round 2 not much longer. So she's deferring their relationship for five years when I don't even think they were together a year?!

None of it makes sense.

Che was far more likeable in their down-on-their-luck phase and working at the veterinary clinic.

yes! I was hoping they’d actually do something with the character, the scene where Che was watching the old videos, why didn’t we hear a bit of their backstory? When they were with Miranda why was there never a heart to heart about sexuality and gender expression? What makes a middle aged woman decide to identify/present as NB?
Is Sara Ramirez NB in real life? If so would you not say, this is just paying lip service to people like me and I’d like to advance understanding of NB lives? And WTF wasn’t it an opportunity to build a real friendship between Che and Charlotte and Harry? As if Miranda wouldn’t have said, my friend’s daughter wants to change her name and pronouns, could we have a drink with them and they could chat to you about it?!?! ARGH ITS SO LAZY

I’d not heard of SR before this but they’re clearly a Big Deal actor and must be costing a lot of money. Perhaps Che has a bigger story arc and now S3 is a go they’ll stop doing SR dirty and develop Che beyond a silly fuckboi type. (They won’t but I wish they would). I didn’t get what Che would see in Miranda beyond a bit of fun. Proper Miranda, yes, but not AJLT Miranda! I think that could have been a great storyline done right. Steve and Che shooting hoops having an awkward chat, Brady dealing with his mother hooking up with a crap standup comedian and blowing up the family…such a waste!

Agree with Carrie getting over Big’s death in a ludicrously fast way, too. I suppose they were hamstrung by Chris Noth being cancelled, but I know widowed people who’ve remarried very happily and they still get sad/think of their loved one who died. We’ve never seen her visit his grave, look at mementos or even really talk about how it feels.

I don't think it's 100% real time because I've restarted the series and there was one episode in season 2 where they make a point they haven't seen Carrie in weeks because she's always with Big.

Apparently Big dying was the plot of the 3rd film so it’s been on the cards for a long time - they kind of needed it otherwise what would carrie’s story be? Nobody wants to see her still married to the same man, it’s been done.
He should have gone to jail for some sort of financial crime, Carrie loses her megabucks lifestyle and is back in a small apartment spending her pension on shoes.

I’m just watching the SATC episode where Carrie and Samantha go to San Francisco, and she makes Samantha get out of the bath. She says I’ve got you a smaller room downstairs….why can she not just shag Big in that room? Why does it need to be the room Samantha is enjoying her bath in 😂
I presume to set up Samantha’s retort ‘i can’t get in another small room!’ 😆 but yeah it is just typical selfish Carrie!

Does anyone follow Nicholas Flannery, he does some funny AJLT parodies. His Samantha Jones return is better than the actual
