Big revelation from the Documentary was that Michael Patrick King intended Nya Wallace (Law professor struggling with fertility) to be Miranda's love interest. Cynthia Nixon personally intervened stating it would be "boring" having two straight characters (Miranda and Nya) hook up, and pushed for Che to be the love interest.

I feel like this change could be one of the reasons the Nya scenes seem a little bit bland and uninteresting, because her character's arc was rewritten, from love interest to friend/professor.

The documentary is actually pretty good, an easy watch made up of behind the scenes footage of the trio babbling and laughing, plenty of wardrobe nostalgia and a tribute to Willie Garson. Interestingly, there is ZERO mention or footage of Big. Nada. The cast and crew were so excited to film in Paris, hinting those scenes were going to be much more fleshed out, alas, we didn't get to see them.

SJP comes across really well, and she appears quite hands on when it comes to costume/set design. For example, in her old apartment she insisted that it felt too "showroom" like, and proceeded to fill it with all her old "junk" to make it feel more homely and lived in.

Plenty of flashbacks to earlier seasons as they look through racks of dresses and shoes.
Kristin Davis had extensive tennis lessons for that scene! 🎾🤣
I think I would have been onboard with the professor and Miranda hooking up. I would have bought that and I think it would have made more sense if done well. duck you very much, Cynthia Nixon 😑

I’m glad Aiden didn’t return, and really hope he doesn’t if they do Series 2. It’s too easy and like she can’t have big so conveniently aiden is free and she can have him. I’d much rather see her develop a relationship with someone new (the hot producer man) than just revisit her ex.

I’m also praying that the dreadful Che disappears. Terrible character.

Jon Tenney and SJP have such great chemistry, it makes me wish their date scene was included.
Instead, we witnessed the aftermath. Projectile vomit, and lots of it.

So this is the direct quote from Cynthia Nixon regarding Che/Nya/Miranda as she talks to the camera behind the scenes.

"So originally when Michael was sort of trying to think about what would happen in our season, he talked about Nya, you know, Miranda’s professor being the romantic relationship. Nya’s a straight character and Miranda’s a straight character and I was like...That doesn't sound very sexy at all. You know what I mean? Two women who have gotten to this age and are now just sort of fumbling around. That doesn’t seem great.

And I was like ...Why couldn’t it be this butch person that you’re talking about having for Carrie."
