I also just don't understand how they all woke up one day and decided they each needed a black friend - it would make a lot more sense if those friendships had developed in the unseen 15-year period. So for example, instead of Miranda randomly going back to college, Nya could have been a partner at her firm with 10 years of friendship under their belt already.
I agree, but wasn’t Miranda a corporate lawyer? That’s not right on enough for Cynthia - whoops, I mean Miranda 🙄 - so now she’s got to show her woke credentials by becoming a human rights activist and lesbian.

I don’t think Cynthia Nixon understands what acting means. ‘Miranda’ should be allowed to be an entirely different person to who CN is, and not a carbon copy of her real life. I think this is what everyone watching is finding so jarring. Someone having a mid life crisis/affair/job change is all quite usual, but for them to mirror CN’s life changes exactly is ridiculous. None of Miranda’s reactions to any of these make sense if you go purely on how she was in SATC.

Even ignoring all the major, major problems...it's such a weird show. The episodes are so disjointed because there's not much of a storyline. The original SATC had arcs that ran for a long time, but it also had short plots that resolved themselves each episode, and AJLT is missing that.

That would also make a lot more sense, because really, imagine your professor asking you out for coffee(!), trying to fleece you for money for their pet project(!!), then telling you about their struggles with infertility(!!!). I'd be asking the university for my money back, no way in hell would I let that woman mark my exams after all that!
The Miranda going back to college thing doesn’t make sense to me at all. I felt like it was really poorly and vaguely explained. Ok I don’t know much about law but- she is in mid50s, partner level (over 15 years ago) in an nyc firm and is going to requalify as a human rights lawyer on the strength of a masters degree? My relative is a corporate lawyer at partner level who went part time a few years ago and does advocacy/is on the board of a women’s rights charity, the rest of the time. Why couldn’t Miranda have this type of trajectory instead of jacking in her job in late career and going back to uni? I wouldn’t mind if they had shown her having a hard time at work in AJLT and the soul searching it would take to make such a huge career decision and maybe making a change by the end of the series.. this would have been a more interesting arc for me than Miranda suddenly discovering she’s bi and wanting out of her marriage/shagging awful Che.

yeah exactly, surely if she ever wants to retire there isn't really time to work in that area? is she supposed to have totally quit her last job or is just stuidying on the side?
The less said about the Che mess the better :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

The little fantasies of Ché that Miranda was having made me wince, hide my head under the covers and made me reach for my dog for emotional support.

Also Charlotte basically said what we were all thinking! “ A finger made you feel alive” “YOU’RE HAVING A MID LIFE CRISIS YOU SHOULD HAVE JUST DYED YOUR HAIR!”

I do not like the new apartment, it looks so cold. It also looks like a perverts fantasy with the huge windows and no curtains.

So far one redeeming thing from this episode is carries emotions seeing the records
I remember when my grandmother died and we were sorting everything in her house, we'd hold it together until we saw certain things.
A top she always looked lovely in
Her favourite necklace
And then we'd just break down in tears and everything would hit again
So well done writers, you did one bit right

I know the writing is on the wall for it unlikely to be renewed. But anyone else hope it is and they learn from the reviews and what us fans have to say about it?

Or maybe they've damaged the show so much there's no way to go back?

It's frustrating, as there's so much potential.

I'd like to:

* Have fewer stories going on at once.
* Bring back a running theme to each episode, with the background stories happening across the episodes.
* Have the show less preachy and trying to tick every single box.
* See the show be inclusive, bit not screaming about it, other shows do this perfectly well.
* See more of NYC.
* Have fewer main characters vying for airtime / storylines.
* See a stop with the lame stereotypes, being in your 50s isn't all about hip replacements and grey hair.
* See the return Miranda's backbone and cynicism.
* BRING THE HUMOUR BACK!

I’ve been away from the thread a while and haven’t caught up but THIS THIS THIS!!! This is what we need

There was a moment in one of the earlier episodes when she buried her face in his suits hanging up in the wardrobe. Heartbreaking but perfect.

I'm 10 minutes in and already:

Charlotte has already been SCHOOLED by her CHILDREN as to why it is NOT OK to have vintage dolls dressed up as different nationalities.

Seema teaching Carrie that it IS OK to wear a sari in a very specific situation. Phrases like Cultural Appreciation used.

Let's see what we learn in the next 10 minutes.

Edit - I'm very worried about Charlotte's face. One side is a very different shape to the other

I agree. I also think that a lot of stuff has been cut with the Noth allegations as someone upthread said. There was an article in the G magazine today saying that a scene from the final has been cut where Carries chucks his ashes off a bridge in Paris.
And I know Carries is a selfish twit, but I kind of like that about her. It makes a change to have a female character that’s quite self absorbed and puts herself first (I know people won’t agree with me on that one, and it does make her unlikeable). I actually understood where she was coming from when she said she didn’t want to hear about Miranda’s drinking problem. When you’re that deep in grief, you sometimes don’t have room to hear about anyone else’s problems, because you’re using all your energy holding it together for yourself. The problem was it was just Carrie being her usual self, so it wasn’t such a ‘thing’ IYSWIM.
