Ok I liked episode 4 discounting every scene with Charlotte (WTAF and thank god for Harry).

A few bits I enjoyed - I felt a wave of emotion when Carrie walked out of her apartment with the big tutu skirt on because it took me right back to my twenties when I loved the original show and how it made me feel! The scene with the shopkeeper, I don’t know why it just felt warm and right. I love Carrie being Carrie, all the familiar mannerisms/facial expressions/tripping over things when she was looking round the apartment with the motorbike. I also thought the IVF/professor dinner scene was good, just two people having a conversation about a serious subject….why can’t they execute the 7 million other serious subjects they are trying to tackle…..

So how many storylines do we have going on so far (I haven’t watched episode 5)?

Carrie - the death of husband storyline, pretty major followed by major surgery
Miranda - alcoholism, sexuality, potential divorce, mothering a teenager, 786 storylines here alone
Charlotte - bleeping hell where to start with that whole “find a black couple” thing, gender identity storyline for her child
Harry - the cancer storyline? Please god no
Steve - the deaf and potential divorce storyline?
Rose/Rock - the gender identity storyline
Stanford and Anthony - another divorce storyline
Nya - the infertility storyline
Seema - the older/unmarried/never divorced storyline
Che - the undoing of Miranda and Steve storyline
Mr Big - the secret life/will storyline
Natasha - see above or was that it, done and dusted with no further explanation re: the $1m?!
Gloria - god bleeping knows but we thought there was a storyline here
THE DEAD DOG/PASSWORD STORYLINE

Anything I’ve missed? Is it just me or is this just way too much, the writing is all over the shop. I don’t know whether I’m coming or going

It's so irritating how the idiot writers are making the main characters act like they're OAP's! If the series wants to be so sensitive to everyone then how about stop being so insensitive to 50+ yr olds and making out like they're all decrepit?!

Ok, so I have been enjoying this so far but what the hell was episode 5? Firstly, I found it hard to follow because so much happened and it jumped so much.

loved the Charlotte and Harry scenes - first time I’ve enjoyed watching Charlotte in AJLT.

I feel like we new the Miranda and Che thing was coming, but it still seemed to happen fast, there wasn’t a build up, and given the noises I hope it never happens again!

Carrie - I found her the most cringe in this episode. I feel like she’s lost, but also the writers are lost and don’t know where to take her character too. I did like the texts to Samantha though, I’m glad they are doing that as it almost keeps her in the show. I was hoping she would reply ‘I miss you too, I’m coming back to NY’ and KC would appear, but we know that’s not happening!

also, reading the comments on here, the amount of comments that start or end with ‘I don’t want to offend’ kind of highlights how people don’t know how to talk about the issues AJLT are addressing and are worried about how they word things, so while I don’t think they are doing a lot right with it, they are making the conversations happen. If the black character was just part of the cast like Louise in the movie, there would be no conversation (which there shouldn’t need to be) but how they are doing it is pushing people to talk and discuss the things they raise.

One of the biggest disservices they've done to Miranda is take away her sense of humour. She was full of witty one-liners in SATC, now she's cackling away at Che, whose comedy seems to consist of just saying "I dated an asshole!" a lot. "I dated someone who was transitioning...into an asshole!" is just the woke version of "take my wife...please." Miranda wouldn't find that tit funny!

Che is so toe-curlingly unfunny. I laughed more at Sara Ramirez's performance in Grey's Anatomy, and that character was an orthopaedic surgeon. This one is supposed to be a stand-up comedian!

I know we all miss Samantha, but if they're going to "replace" her with Anthony I'll be delighted!
Of them all Anthony has aged the best

In what circumstance does your best mate get fingered by your work colleague in your kitchen while you’re in the other room 🧐
And when they are at your home to help you after surgery, and then keep grinning like a moron when you are enraged and sat in your own urine 🤷‍♀️

I have enjoyed them to be pretending that the allegations against Chris Noth is the reason they won’t get a second series-not the mass ridicule that it has been getting.
Miranda, her personality is no more, it could be that in a very cack handed and stupid way they are trying to illustrate how a women in middle age, after working their arse off, raising a family, running a home and caring for older relatives while having marriage problems can really suck the life out of people. That or they really needed Cynthia Nixon to return-can’t have two out the four ‘in London’. The speech were she said how unhappy she was great, and when she said she had never been happily married made sense as she had just cheated on Steve-loads of cheaters re-write history to justify bad behaviour! Che is a dick, and will dump Miranda when it stops being less exciting hook ups and more having to listen to Brady having sex in the next room while eating chia seeds.
Hate Carrie, but love how she and Anthony have stayed true to themselves!

AJLT?

Who would be the third actor after KC and CN?

This is a good point. I’m in my early 30’s and can struggle with knowing how to do address the issues of today, understanding and keeping up to date with new terms. It feels like a minefield. My mother who is 56, so in the age bracket of the characters really struggles with understanding politically correct terms for everything, race, sexuality and now gender issues, although she is open minded for her it’s almost learning another language. My dad however is not open minded and won’t even pretend to be. So actually I do think this heavy handed approach to life in 2021 isn’t all terrible. A lot of people will be learning whilst watching.
As a parent facing gender and sexuality issues with a child, I do find it somewhat relatable and interesting to watch, I’m not sure I would if it wasn’t a present issue in my life.

This! I think parents need some guidance on how to deal with this because it’s so common at the moment.
There is lots and lots of guidance. The problem is that it depends on who is doing the guiding and the philosophy of that organisation. For example the Tavistock clinic or Mermaids are very much into fully believing that you can be “born in the wrong body”, being entirely child led, hormones to delay puberty etc. And parents can be persuaded to go along with that, if they happen to stumble across that guidance first and don’t understand that there are other approaches and very different ways of seeing this. As a parent you effectively have to understand and read an awful lot about this subject and come to a very clear understanding and philosophy yourself about what is going on and how best to support your child and that includes deciding who you will and won’t listen to. And then you have to talk to your teenage child about it and stay firm in the face of a huge amount of “information” that contradicts what you are saying. It can be an extremely confusing and excruitiatingly lonely road.

Having some experience of this I found the scene of Harry in the classroom to be by far the best thing this series has done so far (not difficult, to be fair). I guess it remains to be seen whether he will be allowed to maintain this perspective or whether he will be successfully “re-educated” into wokethink and allow the transing of his young daughter. I very much suspect the latter and am already envisaging tearful “oh honey I didn’t get it but now I do, I just want whatever will make you happy” scenes.

I laughed more at Samantha’s 2 text messages in that last episode than I have the whole time Che has been on screen 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think Anthony could be a good substitute for Sam but he’ll in no way replace her because it’s a different sort of vibe. Still hilarious but just different

It feels like the scriptwriters are all 20 years old and imagining what life after 50 is like...everyone's deaf, dying, drunk, or having hip surgery, and nobody has ever met a black person before.

Completely. its like the three main leads were cryogenically frozen and have woken up in a new world they don't understand. I don't see how three savvy worldly new yorkers would suddenly be so out of touch on everything. Sure maybe the odd thing but not everything in the modern world.
