It’s the moaning about POC inclusion that gets to me. I was out with my black friend during that period after lockdown when people were dipping their toes into outdoor dining. My friend has a health condition which compels him to need the toilet frequently. We asked at a restaurant if he could use their facility. The white man told him no and said “We have to look after our own.” I had to explain the situation before he allowed my friend to use the restroom. I could tell that the guy working the door was provincial from a whole slew of factors. The bile I experienced comes back up every time I see a post whining about signaling wokeness. Just no -- if you don’t want to interact with black people go get a desk job and similarly, why would someone watch a show about NYC if LGBTQ+ & BIPOC is going to trigger you 😂
I don't think anybody is triggered by the inclusion of bipoc or LGBTQ. It's just that they've very obviously been included so that the show can say they've included them. Take the character of Miranda's professor - it would feel more meaningful and normal if Miranda didn't comment on her hair or skin colour and if she was just there as a good character that happened to be black rather than them going out of their way to emphasise the colour of her skin through the storyline. Charlotte's dinner party and the scene with the downstairs neighbour are another example of this.

What do you suppose people are complaining about when they use the term ‘box ticking’?

Personally, when I use the term box ticking I'm complaining about them including bipoc and LGBTQ characters for the sake of it rather than in a meaningful way with well-developed, rounded characters.

Box ticking - noun. derogatory the process of satisfying bureaucratic administrative requirements rather than assessing the actual merit of something.

And back to my original point, I don’t take issue with people of colour, non binary people, queer people, the elderly, teenagers, ex wives or sour dough but the issue is…the script.
By all means be inclusive but rather than throw everything in at once and make a mess of it deal with one issue in a sensitive and funny way like satc used to.
Take Rose/Rock for example there would have been a whole episode about that where we could get to know the character and then see something that affects the girls all in a similar way and then make it a feature in other episodes too.
Again, the script.

The problem isn't that they've included diverse characters, it's that they've shoehorned in as many diverse storylines and characters into one close knit group of characters which a) doesn't really reflect real life b) doesn't allow proper character development of these characters. It would have been far better to choose one or two and fully round them out as real people and characters and give them the time they deserve.

I like to see gay representation but not more on type of gay person, or more stereotypes. Also the constant PR announcements is an issue, as it comes across as disingenuous. There are tv shows out there that have diverse characters that just let them join organically without the need for a big PR fanfare. They are just part of the cast. By making a big deal of it it comes across as though it's being done to tick a box, especially when these characters/stories aren't fully developed.

Miranda rewriting history to justify cheating.. ' I hate my marriage...always been this unhappy' .. what has happened to her. So disappointed.
I think this is my issue with AJLT, it's a retcon. Cynthia Nixon has forgotten how to play Miranda, she was acerbic and blunt, not at all deferential or sycophantic. And we're supposed to believe that she never really loved Steve. All while they're not even bothering to give Steve meaningful screentime. It's a bit tit. Miranda the character isn't really here anymore.

No issue with the sex scene itself. Could have done without Carrie having to wee herself at the same time though. Do the writers think that's funny? It's just depressing. I did like the confrontation between Carrie and Miranda afterwards.

I like the professor character (although i hated how Miranda acted around her at the beginning) and the scene with her and Miranda at the restaurant. I hope we see more of her.

Charlotte's Rock storyline is okay. It's a tricky line for parents to navigate. I thought the younger teacher was incredibly obnoxious. Previous episode talking about Zadie Smith as this hot new author was cringeworthy (She's amazing but White Teeth was what, 20 years ago?)

Anthony is a good presence in this show.
The Seema character is alright.

Oh come on!!!! They had a character literally running around the city trying to “find black people” to take to a dinner party….! It IS box ticking - from the script writers and production team.
It captured the zeitgeist of trying to amend wrongs. The real life mayor of NYC had a road painted to say “Black Lives Matter.” Charlotte going to great lengths to make her black friend feel at ease is art imitating life.

That's the part I find hard to grapple with. If Miranda never really loved Steve then why did she go back to him after the affair. She had a out and didn't take it.

Is the whole Big leaving Natasha a million dollars thing gonna be revisted or resolved.
Any references or scenes featuring Big will likely be cut from future episodes.
Or perhaps he could be left in, but censored 👇

I don’t even care that there is different races or LGBT+ people, it’s NYC! Not some town in the middle of the Bible Belt. I like everyone except Che as they are super two dimensional.

They only can talk about how they’re gay, their gender and that they smoke weed under the guise of being a comedian (they’re not funny). If they happened to make them an interesting character who just so happens to talk about being gay and be non binary, I would not care. But they’re so boring.

I like Miranda’s professor, as we seen a more realistic side of her with her IVF and her worry that she might not want to be a mother, and that she has more than just one thing to talk about.

I also like Carries real estate agent and hope to see more of her and I like how even though she only has known Carrie for a quick moment, she still treats Carrie like a good friend and is concerned for well being and wants her to see a doctor. She also called Carrie out on her condescending comments so I liked that

In what circumstance does your best mate get fingered by your work colleague in your kitchen while you’re in the other room 🧐
To be fair silly, over the top, explicit sex scenes were the bread and butter of original SATC.
Normally though Che would be just an obnoxious shag of the episode rather than a major character- pity they are so two dimensional. I had a crush on Sara Ramirez in Greys anatomy, think this has killed it!

I am enjoying reading all the hilarious comments here - much better than the episodes themselves (y) However, as I've been watching weekly at TV pace, I keep thinking I has missed lots, only to find that many comments are based on future episodes. I have only just watched episode 5 tonight, yet the majority of comments in the last few days have already been about this episode. Also, there are comments for episode 6.

Thanks to those who have put the details behind spoilers. Fair enough, this thread doesn't specify 'No Spoilers' in the title, so I will just have to read carefully and quickly scroll past what I haven't seen already.
