I didn't really mind who won this series, I liked all three couples for different reasons. Ladi was lush and Monique improved as the series went on to become really likeable.

Zanib opened up throughout the series and I really warmed to her. Mobeen just seemed like a really nice guy.

I felt for Tricia and Cathy and really admired them, they just knuckled down and got on with it. I really thought that they made the wrong decision getting the earlier boat and having to travel so far on land.

Loved the conversation in the car about adoption, really made me emotional. Glad they felt they were there at the right time for a reason.

Happy for the ladies, but such a shame Monique and Ladi didn't win, I was so rooting for them!

Overall it wasn't so close at the end, 2 hours ahead! Bet they regretted running so fast they couldn't breathe 😂

The editing really was awful this year wasn’t it. Like how did Cath and Trish get in front of them to Halifax, I don’t think it was shown or mentioned?
So many times teams just appeared in places with no explanation. I get they can’t show everything but a one sentence narration telling us would do!

I thought they got a taxi? While Z and M stopped off to do some work before Halifax.

I missed how the two women were 67 miles away from St John, whilst the other two teams were there, then all of a sudden they were all on foot racing for the Cathedral.

The adoption chat was lovely. I'm adopted and have never given it much thought tbh 😂 Perfectly happy. But what that man said touched me. I didn't really like Zanib to start with, she seemed abrasive. But I really warmed to her.
I did want Laddie and Monique to win but they just seemed the happiest whatever really.

I’m actually glad they won based on the last episode. Mainly as they took the risk on the other route and I did think that was a mistake. I’m glad they took another route as it would’ve been boring to see them all on one boat again.
I also thought they made a mistake when stopping to work at the gun place as it was only for food and I thought they could’ve just eaten something very cheap seeing as it was the last leg.

I think the editing let it down. As when they were comparing them just leaving that man’s house against the others docking on the ferry the lighting was much different and it looked a lot earlier where trick and Cathie were compared to the ferry docking. So I think they were always ahead a lot but they made it seem like they were matched up

Third series in a row my least favourite couple has won 😅 Though they weren't quite as unlikeable as Tony and Elaine!
Thanks for reminding me of the joy that was Tony and Elaine! They should arrange a Come Dine With Me episode along with this series winners, can you imagine the amount of complaining and general self entitlement that would involve 🙄

My main issue with the women is that the way they spoke to others whether it was their fellow contestants or people they needed lifts from, no please or thanks, I know it was a ‘race’ but they didn’t appear to have any concerns for others and that bollocks about how close they were, no about of fake hugging or hand holding will convince me that off camera they don’t speak to each other until they are needed for the show’s PR.

Im also several years older than them and no way would I play the age card the way they did. I think it suited the producers to have the current trend of menopausal invisible women win, the way they stumbled on that bloke after the final ferry ride who took them home then drove 100s of miles at 5am. I smell 🐮 💩

I apologise for the rant, 12hrs on I’m still pissed on behalf of Monique and Ladi (and to a lesser extent Mobeen and Zanaib)

My husband thinks they bunged him £1k of their winnings to do it lol

I do wonder though if there are people primed to help and if you reach then first you're in luck.

I also wonder if the production crew have a camper van they follow around in or how that works.

It’s like in other legs and it happened to other couples? Claudia/Kevin where the woman have them her car then the uncle drove with them further, can’t remember another example but I’m pretty sure it happened to others as well.

Also Zainab/Mobeen running into the guy who was adopted and they so happen to talk about it. I was surprised by Zainab this leg as previously she wanted to get going asap but the final round she was like ‘let’s not wake up too early’

What does everyone think about the racism part? I don’t see it as everyone struggled to get lifts at some parts. Cathie/Tricia in another round when that guy said he’d take them but was just joking with them and disappears and I’m sure one time didn’t they end up getting a taxi as they gave up hitchhiking(?). Claudia/Kevin pulled out the race as they’d spent 6 hours(?) in the rain looking for a lift and didn’t have enough money to do it any other way and we saw multiple times Claudia complaining about how long it took getting a lift (then Kevin getting a taxi 😄).
If any couples seemed to get lucky with lifts I think it was Zainab/Mobeen and that doesn’t fit the racism story. I’m sure they used lift shares the majority of the way? They didn’t hire a car, barely got any taxis and didn’t used the free campervan idea?

I’ve also seen people say it’s likely the fact they were in Quebec and that people there don’t like English speakers so it was probably harder due to that?

I think the production team do a Lot of reaserch before hand. They probably post on local forums / town facebook pages to search for people to help out.

In regards to finding the man who was adopted - again the production team was on the ferry for 17 hours also, so probably spent a lot of time talking to passengers, noted he would make good content and pointed him in Z+M direction.

Regards to racism - nobody apart from the contestants have a right to comment on their experience. If that's what they feel they experienced then that is totally valid.

The racism discussion seemed quite forced imo like you said they all seemed to have the same amount of success and failures with asking for help.
Maybe the French speaking part is a more hostile environment to people who look different though idk
And the way they just happened to bump into that guy from Jamaica after talking about it seemed very convenient. I feel like the BBC felt they just had to touch on it in some way.

Yeah I definitely thought it was forced it also happened to be exactly when they visited the park about it as well. They also don’t know what people were really like to the others either so how would they have known if their reactions were any different.
Them getting a straight up ‘no’ before really asking, I feel I’d automatically say that to avoid talking to anyone doesn’t matter who they are. No point wasting anyone’s time talking if you know you’ll say no.
---
I do think each couple had what seemed like a forced discussion? And so happened to be either with a person or due to a circumstance?
Trich/Cathie with the disability/health issues especially during jobs
Ladi/Monique with the racism
Mobeen/Zainab with the adoption/ttc
The brothers I can’t really remember but about losing a parent, I may be totally making that up though
Claudia/Kevin with an absent dad

Obviously some are worse than others but it just seemed they had to get a topic in each to talk about and kind of be a sob story

I think that the production set up a lot of the conversations and rides. It didn’t feel like they had gone through the mill like previous series. I am quite a cynical person but the amount of goodwill was extreme, particularly in the latter stages. All the drives. Nothing is organic on tv anymore, it’s all designed and directed.

I think in the French part there was absolutely racism, especially towards Monique and Ladi and I’m sure generally Trish and Cathie would have had a slightly easier time hitchhiking (partly racism, partly because two ladies in their 40s just will).

They all got some really lucky lifts and stays so I think it did even out over the course of the series. With Trish and Cathie’s last one, it seemed like it was the wife who changed her husbands mind? He said he couldn’t but after they’d been chatting, she was the one who said “We’ll take you” and basically volunteered him for it so I don’t think bribery was involved as much as his wife decided she liked them and they were going to do it.
