I think Monique was right about them being at a disadvantage compared to the white teams, especially there, but I’d wager Zainab and Mobeen would have had the same problem
Agreed not that Kevin & Claudia used their advantage. I really hope the two ladies don't win now. Routing for either of the other teams. I loved Zainab's Starbucks name Zara this week 😂

I really liked it this week. I have been thinking about it throughout the series how it must be harder for
Ladi and Monique as Canada does not seem very diverse, to hear them say it was heartbreaking and I'm so glad they met that Jamaican guy and the guy who gave them the strawberries too, although I don't know if either thing was set up, I'd like to think it wasn't.

I got spoilered about K&C's departure but was disappointed that they went out with a whimper rather than after a meltdown. I found the whole sequence with the cannabis shop lady slightly uncomfortable to watch, like she was clearly in the depths of grief about her mother and I felt that they exploited her somewhat, but gave themselves pats on the back about the kindness of strangers helping them along their way.
This series hasn't been the best, the teams don't seem to have had that many 'experiences' or the jobs are cleaning toilets rather than helping at something unique like a Canadian moose shelter.

I would love to know if they really sat in the rain for 6 hours or if they were actually there for ten mins having already realised it was over but been told to exaggerate. It would explain the seemingly calm acceptance from both of them when normally they were at each other.

This is the first time I’ve watched this properly from start to finish, so the work they get, can it only be at certain locations?

Just wondering why when Kevin and Claudia found out they couldn’t leave Quebec until the next morning, why didn’t they try and find some work asap to boost funds? Doesn’t matter anyway now I guess.

I think production give them a list of places that they can work at (I'm guessing businesses pre-agree with production before they start filming) and perhaps there was no where in Quebec where they could work, which is odd considering it's a city.

Monique and Ladi are my winners, their hearts have been in it for the right reasons from the start and their relationship has gone from strength to strength, they clearly encounter quite a bit of prejudice particularly since reaching the east coast.

If it’s Zanaib and Mobeen I will be slightly less happy, I think they have perhaps not been edited well but I can’t warm to them.

I however fear it’s the women. They get on my nerves big time. They have had so much help along the way being bailed out with lifts constantly and conveniently getting the white stick out yet happily building teepees while never again mentioning the husband at home with the failed kidney transplant. They are not worthy winners imo.

I do like the two women and I reckon they’re victims of editing with regards to her husband and to some extent the sight impairment but I agree I don’t want them to win. I hope Monique and Ladi do as well, they seem to have really grown together along the way in a way the other two teams haven’t.

I think the BBC didn’t have the best set of contestants for this show this year. The BBC has a checklist of inclusivity and got contestants based on that list rather than entertainment value and human interest.

Claudia and her dad were the white couple
The two brothers, a gay box ticked and the other was socially awkward and fearful of everything.
Ladi and Monique, the black contestants
Zainab and Mobeen, the muslims
The two women, the disabled box.

It’s great they are inclusive but only if the contestants are right. Of the contestants this year, only Ladi and Monique interest me, they have personality, they have a great relationship, Monique is funny and has visibly blossomed and her dad is so proud of her.

Zainab and Mobeen, he is sweet but I can’t warm to her at all. She is grumpy and speaks in a monotone voice that sucks all the joy out of what they are doing.

The two brothers, so dull. Nobody cared.

Claudia and her dad, wanted to bang their heads together. They were given an opportunity of a lifetime and they blew it by trying to buy their way to the end, to please (appease?) her at the beginning.

The two women, okay, kudos to someone with visual impairment taking on this epic trip but they are as dull as the two brothers that went.

They are going to continually hit this problem if they are picking people by categories rather than by interesting stories and personalities. I don’t believe this year’s contestants were the best that applied. But they were the best for the boxes that they could tick at the time.

Agree with everything you’ve said! I also think the ladies had an easier time with lifts yes because they’re white and middle aged women but also because, like Monique and Ladi, they are able to pull out the smileyness and friendliness when they’re asking people.

Zainab has a face like a smacked arse most of the time so along with the factors out of her control, that’s surely contributed to some of their struggles.

Apart from the miserable people in the French bit, Monique and Ladi radiate something lovely and that makes people want to help them. Even when they hit a bit of a wall, they don’t dwell. I really feel proud of Monique, which is weird, I don’t know her! He’s a great dad. And a lovely bloke. I really hope they win.

They really do! Monique has grown so much I think, you can see it in her from the first week where she was questioning her dad helping that guy to now where she’s jumping in to help herself and how much more confident she seems at making decisions. They’ve actually gone on a journey over the whole series which I can’t say any other couples seem to have to me, the women were best friends from the start so not equivalent and zainab and mobeen just seem the same.

Claudia and Kevin sometimes seemed like they had but I agree with the PP who said she’ll never really forgive him and they’re probably back to where they were when they started now.

Surely we've seen the contestants on this & Prev series having spare time before an onward journey traipsing around places asking for ANY adhoc work eg. washing dishes, cleaning toilets etc.
I get the feeling the pre approved ones are more of the 'experience' type place - that they might have to go out of their way to work there, but get $$$s, bed & board for the night
