Couldn’t see a thread for those of us blessed with PCOS but please do redirect me if there is something!
I’ve recently been told I’ve got PCOS by a gynaecologist after a few years of knowing deep down I probably did. Have had trouble with periods, skin issues and facial hair 😫
I’ve been put on a 3 month course of HRT using progesterone... I wondered if anyone has had any similar experiences and how they found it?
 
I have PCOS but never been offered any treatment.

I’d always suspected to (unpredictable periods, excess hair, acne, belly weight), but I was diagnosed because my ex and I had been trying to get pregnant for a long time with no success. (Turned out he had seriously low sperm count, and I’ve since gone on to have 3 children with my current partner).

The higher my weight, the worse my symptoms are.
 
I was put on metaformin too. I would recommend a low GI diet with plenty of water and excercise. PCOS is manageable as long as you follow the advice of your gp.
 
I'm going to see a gyneacologist next week as my GP suspects I also have PCOS.
My partner and I have been trying to get pregnant for some time now, but my cycle just kinda stopped. Last "real" period was beginning of April (had some very minor bleeding in the meantime, although I wouldn't even call it real bleeding. Fortunately it's not early onset menopause.
It's been very frustrating though. Already did 3 pregnancy tests as I thought I was pregnant (because my period wouldn't start) only to see a minus appear and be crushed all over again 😢
Hoping the appointment next week will give more answers.
On the bright side, my period was always very very painful before, so now that I don't really get them, I'm pain free 🤷‍♀️

Edit: the pimples though 😳 so annoying! I always thought I had good skin, turns out, that was just the pill 😅
 
When I was younger around 15 I had problems with periods, extremely irregular like once a year and they would be ridiculously heavy and painful and I’d have to stay off school. I went for all sorts of blood tests and the GP told me I had polycystic ovaries... but not the syndrome???

I’ve never really understood that as my periods eventually became regular even without the pill etc and I’ve never had trouble with my weight, excessive hair, acne etc.

When I went for my first smear I was told my cervix was slightly tilted and have been for one at the hospital when the results show something (my phone won’t autocorrect it and I’m not going to embarrass myself trying to spell it 😂) and they said I was fine.

When I’ve been due on I’ve been known to have major PMT but that’s been resolved with taking vitamins now so I obviously lacked something.

I can’t help but wonder that guess from my GP was just a “I have no idea why your periods are irregular love” diagnosis? Because when I mention it to people no one has ever came across it before and I’ve been going through life thinking I’m going to have a challenge conceiving?

I have PCOS. I had no period for two years, terrible skin and could not shed 1 pound. So i paid privately to get checked out. I was put on Dianette and it was the best thing ever. Ive never had skin issues or late periods anymore. I had got pregnant naturally also.

Ah good luck I hope it goes well! My gynaecologist was amazing and put me at ease a lot! She did an ultrasound and asked for bloods and the diagnosis seemed simple enough. She mentioned there’s lots that can be done to help so fingers crossed for you 🙂
 
I have PCOS. Best person to see is an endocrinologist not a gynaecologist, as PCOS is an endocrine disorder. My endo consultant was incredible. My very first appointment I left feeling like finally somebody understood EVERYTHING that I always knew wasn’t right about me and told me what I needed to do to fix it. She really changed my life and although I still deal with symptoms, I am a lot more accepting of them now.

I find no matter what type/make of pill I put on weight more with my Pcos. Therefore I avoid but I’m currently overweight regardless
 
I have what people generally refer to as lean pcos, diagnosed by blood test and an internal ultrasound.
It is very frustrating as it took SO long for me to get a diagnosis, they didn't even want to do the tests for years & my doctor has two daughters with classic pcos symptoms and she clearly thinks mine isn't as bad or doesn't need to be taken seriously and offered no way to treat/manage it.
It is really disheartening particularly as it is having a huge impact on ttc for me. I'm looking to switch doctors actually so hopefully that helps, it was mention by another nurse in the practice that fertility appointments are somewhat fast tracked and I could get referred at 6 months rather than a full year of trying so I might start thinking about taking that up soon.

This is really frustrating! I had the same situation with one of my doctors - she just wouldn't take it seriously at all and said that everything was manageable with more exercise and cutting down on sugar. It made me feel really upset particularly as my mum had fertility issues and I always worried something could be more seriously wrong.
I decided to change doctors and I had such a different experience (with a male doctor funnily enough) who listened to me and was particularly concerned when I said I sometimes experience ovarian pain during ovulation. He referred me straight away - so it might be worth seeing if you can see someone else as I do think doctors are all so different and have their own views on what should be referred v what definitely shouldn't.
 
I have PCOS, I was diagnosed at 19, I'm 41 now. I must have a very mild version of it because the only obvious symptom is some hairs on my chin. I was diagnosed due to being given depo provera and consequently coming off it, my periods went a bit haywire. My GP told me at my first appointment with her that she suspected it was PCOS and referred me for an ultrasound. I was put on Cileste to sort my periods out but I came off it after about 6 months because I was no longer in a relationship. My periods were normal after I came off it. When I started a new relationship I was put on Dianette in the hope that it would help with the hairs on my chin, it didn't, I came off that a few years ago. PCOS hasn't affected my fertility as I have regular periods and my GP told me that with PCOS if your periods are regular it's because you are ovulating each month. Honestly, when I was diagnosed I was absolutely gutted, I thought it meant so much more than it did but it's barely been a thing in my life.
 
I have PCOS. I’m slim, not particularly hairy, skins not too bad etc however I do not ovulate due to hormone levels and have the typical ring of pearl ovaries. Even clomid didn’t help me, my daughters were born via IVF, I responded very well to the ivf, over stimulated which is common with PCOS. But over than the fertility issues PCOS hasn’t been an issue for me.
 
I got diagnosed a few years ago when very suddenly, some facial hairs started growing, had terrible acne and my hair was so oily I could probably cook chips in it 🤷‍♀️.However, my periods have always been very regular so that's why I didn't think of PCOS straightaway.

I had blood tests and ultrasound but they couldn't see anything, yet my endocrinologist said that there were high chances that I had PCOS. I got put on Yasmin + Metformin and my acne has completely gone! I am just worried that if I ever stop Yasmin, it would just come back :(

It took a VERY long time to get diagnosed... But I am glad i got there in the end..
 
I’ve not been diagnosed but I’m pretty sure I have it - irregular periods, excess hair and bad breakouts from time to time. I did some research and found a few pcos blogs who recommend spearmint tea because it reduces the level of testosterone in your body. I was skeptical but ordered it. I’ve now been drinking 1-2 cups a day for a year and I get my period probably every 35-40 days instead of 3 times a year. Also cutting down on sugar helps massively because it increases testosterone production. For the excess facial and body hair I opted to get laser treatment as it was the only permanent solution unfortunately :(
