Old School Reality TV

I am watching the Work Experience on 4od as per someone's recommendation, I saw it ages ago but barely remember it, it is hilarious!

So many good ones! Channel 4 did so many of the good ones… Brat Camp, Tool Academy, the one where they had teenagers go ‘back in time’ to a 50s school… That’ll Teach ‘Em?

Was also a big fan of Young, Dumb and Living Off Mum which would have been on about 10 years ago in my student days. Rich kids in a house together on a low budget and having to do ‘normal’ jobs… the house was always an absolute state because they were so used to other people clearing up after them and they’d blow all the money on booze and cigs on day one.

Omg! I had forgotten all about that! I remember being obsessed with the first series but didn’t really like the second and stopped watching.

Does anyone remember Hotter than my daughter? 😂

Also: Holiday Showdown >>>>> Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday

Also liked Playing it Straight UK and USA.

Original wife swap USA >>>>> Wife swap UK >>>>> rebooted wife swap USA

I also used to like the Bad Girls Club

There was also the TRASHIEST show I’ve ever seen, it was called “The week we went wild” on channel 5 about a troubled family who had to live in the wilderness. One of the kids was vile to his mother and called her something like “you stupid bleeping SLAG” on camera. It was so trashy they just stopped airing it after two episodes even though there were meant to be five. I was gutted lol.

Okay, does anyone remember this (I feel like no one will but I'm praying someone does!):

A reality show about say 5 sets of couples all living in a house together trying to win 10k - the way they'd win was not being figured out as a real couple. If the other couples voted you as a real couple you got eliminated.

So the show would set games say like Spin the Bottle and your partner might have to kiss someone else, but you couldn't react or people would suss out you were the real couple.

It was on in around 2001/2002 I think on a channel like Trouble/Bravo...don't think it was MTV or Nickelodeon but definitely aimed at around a 15-20 year old demographic.

After coming across this thread last night I fell down a rabbit hole trying to find out what it was but its like I've made the entire thing up in my mind 🤣

This is going to drive me mad. I know what you’re talking about. I didn’t watch it much, but I know what show you mean. Just tried to google it but didn’t find anything!

I really liked who rules the roost which is where parents take time off work and try being stay at home parents, that was always good as was house of tiny tear aways which was like big brother for toddlers.
I used to love House of Tiny Tearaways! Always so interesting seeing how different families do things.

There was a show on bbc not so long ago where parents left their kids ‘alone’ for around 5 days and they’d watch them on camera from a place nearby. The kids had to fend for themselves, get themselves to school(or not), do shopping, homework, cook meals, some of them had parties and did stuff they wouldn’t usually be allowed to do. I think some of the kids ended up getting stuck in town once🤣 obviously they were never totally alone as they had camera crews following them but I’m not sure how ‘involved’ they were.

Writing about that has just reminded me of that show from probably 20 years or so ago where it was like changing rooms but the kids got to have total control over the renovation of a couple of rooms in the house. I’ll always remember this one family who was all about healthy eating and the kids turned the kitchen into a burger bar, the parents were horrified and I think they got their old kitchen back in the end, what was the name of that show😂

I finished watching rich holiday, poor holiday and it’s nowhere near as good as holiday showdown. There’s no drama because they don’t go on the holidays together so it was a bit meh.

The first show I don’t know if it’s the same one but it sounds similar to Boys and Girls Alone on channel 4. It caused outrage at the time and I remember reading that parliament would have to review child exploitation laws because of it!

The second one was called Home on their Own!

Home on their own!!! Off to find somewhere to watch that gem now.

I vaguely remember Boys and Girls Alone! Don’t think it was on for long was it? Similar to the show I’m talking about but I think it was more recent maybe in the last 5 years and might have been on bbc.

Two old reality Tv shows I would love to see again: Reborn In The USA - Sonia having a showdown with Dollar over trying to get public votes.
The other featured an odd couple, trying to foster or adopt a child? It was very strange. I can’t remember the title, but I remember the wife telling the long suffering husband “I hate your mind, and I hate your f***ing body” or something along those lines..

Being NDubz, the various Katie/Peter/Kerry ITV2 series (was defo too young to be watching them at the time), airline/nothing to declare, the one where two families would go on each other's favourite holidays (it was always somewhere tacky and somewhere educational 😂), the one where families who emigrated abroad would come back to the UK to view houses and would pick at the end if they were going to move back here or stay in usually Australia or Spain. So much good junk that we just don't get anymore.

Celebrity wrestling! I was so excited for this show because I like wrestling but it turned out to be complete crap😂

I agree. They had some odd contestants too - the bloke who was married to Anthea Turner? I can’t remember his name 🤪

I recall a celebrity darts match / TV show a few years back. Was it for Comic Relief? I was disappointed when Bob Mortimer was knocked out.
