Old School Reality TV

Brat camp was the show that absolute horror Jemma Lucy was in, wasn't it? She was a pain in the arse even then.

I used to love Wife Swap, and a few others that have been mentioned.

My favourite ones were wedding related - 4 weddings (where all the brides used to go to each others weddings and score them - basically slag them off for completely arbitrary reasons. Always used to turn into a total witch fest. The one where the bride was a pole dancer was a classic šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ )

and there was a BBC one, I think it was called the Wedding?, which just followed different couples getting married. I'd love to watch that again and find out if any of them are still married (I doubt it given how incompatible most of them seemed!)

I actually worked with a girl who did the very 1st season of 4 weddings, although she couldnā€™t have been further from a pole dancer!

My favourites from back in the day were -
Club Reps - that was the one in Falaraki wasnā€™t it?
Ibiza Uncovered
The Osbournes
Most Haunted
Airline
Shipwrecked (how I long for a teenage T4 Sunday with this and the Hollyoaks omnibus)

Does anyone remember the fly on the wall/docu series series about the London Underground call The Tube ? It was repeated all the time on Sky 3 / Travel .

I remember binging this from my sickbed with HG pregnant with my eldest and then the next time we visited London I actually saw one of the female employees featured on it and thought this was amazing šŸ˜‚

Faking It. They are on All4. Loving the rewatches. Such a good show.
Model Behaviour. Bitchy teenagers having screaming matches while trying to become a model. There was such a witch fest over Welsh single mum Jenny, who won and became a successful model.
Naked in Westminster with sleazy Cat Man David, witch choreographers Ginger and Persia, plus lovely Scouse Dawn, who I think shagged Cat Man. šŸ¤®
Ibiza Uncovered. My ex was a dancer at Manumission and would pop up ok an episode.
Club Reps with scary Maz and her bidding dog impression.
Super Nanny. Love Jo Frost. Remember this horror hitting Jo? She's all grown up now.
House Doctor. Anne Maurice making every house in the land magnolia. I did love her and the show though.

2 very random shows - the sack race - they had to get sacked within the closest time to 3pm on the first day of the first day of the job.
My new best friend - one of the most underrated shows ever- they had to comvince friends/family this guy is their best friend over a weekend and they win money https://www.channel4.com/programmes/my-new-best-friend (he is hilarious, is a comedian and has been in other things )
Heard of Sack Race. Never saw it.

I'll watch My New Best Friend. Thanks. Sounds hilarious.

in a similar vein does anyone remember something on E4 called Little People (or something like it) where children played pranks on unsuspecting members of the public? I remember one in which this boy goes up to a stranger and asks them to read a letter to him as he can't read and it is basically the mum saying she is leaving him and has to fend for himself
And people fell for that? His fictional mum would know he couldn't read. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ Brilliant.

I forgot about four weddings. I loved this
If you have Sky Replay, it's currently showing Four Weddings every day.

Speaking of Liberty X we watched the awful reality show with Michelle Heaton and Andy Scott Lee (Lisa from Steps brother). He made her kiss a raw fish when on their honeymoon I remember her flipping out.Great telly
I recently watched this. Totally Scott Lee. It's bleeping hilarious. I was watching it thinking it can't be real how they all behave.

Super Nanny. Love Jo Frost. Remember this horror hitting Jo? She's all grown up now.

Off topic but this is why Iā€™m uneasy about children in reality shows - they donā€™t really have a choice to appear on it (and even if they do have the ā€œfinal sayā€, donā€™t have the capacity of an adult to understand potential consequences) and yet it will follow them around for the rest of their lives, especially now Youtube is around (something she specifically mentioned in the article).

I don't know if its old enough to be old school but I loved Don't Tell the Bride. Always thought it was odd tho all the tears, tantrums and meltdowns from brides and bridesmaids about the dresses/the theme/venue etc but then by some sort of miracle at the end the bride is all smiles and always says 'I wouldn't change a thing'

Holiday reps! Started in 1997 so I was just starting secondary school and we all thought it was so glamorous and cool. Just googled and canā€™t even find much info on it because itā€™s THAT old šŸ¤£

omg I loved it! I wanted to be that girl who married the fit Spanish barman. I was in year 11 and remember being gutted we didnā€™t have Spanish in my school to learn the language of these hunks. Didnā€™t become a rep but air hostess instead šŸ˜‚

I remember watching a reality show with a group of Brits, German s and Japanese people and various reactions of the group's to situations. For example they went on a coach trip with a very drunk driver(he wasn't drunk an actor was playing a drunk. They were then asked what should be done about the situation.
The Japanese wanted him sacked and prosecuted for drunk driving, the Brits were all for him being sacked with no further punishment.
The Germans were by far the most compassionate believing that an underlying problem caused his drinking and that his family might suffer if he was sacked
Their solution was to send him to rehab and give him his job back after his recovery. There were loads of other scenarios but that was the best one and did a lot at the time to break down stereotypes of Germans.

OMG this was my favourite! I was just going to comment this. Itā€™s called the Tourist Trap and was from 1999- I found it on Youtube during lockdown. Remember when there was a goat at the pool and the one to see which nationality was the most honest as to who would nick drinks from the bar, who would eat weird food etc šŸ˜‚ The most intelligent of the reality TV shows in my opinion.

The Real Holiday Show with Gaby Roslin, people took a camcorder on holiday and made their own vids as an alternative to Judith Chalmers etc. Youā€™d always get middle aged women leching after Turks, a boring camping bit, the odd weirdo naturist, some nice single person on a city break. This was 1995 til maybe 98 or so? I remember it was on Weds after Brookside and then the slot went to Jayne Middlemiss Sheā€™s Gotta Have It where people would be given an amount to spend on an outfit. I much preferred this to Gok Wan and Trinny and Susannah.

We went to Eggleston Hall where Ladette to Lady was filmed and the woman with the helmet like blonde bob (Gill Harbord) served us in the gift shop. She was just as stuck up as she was on the programme. In case anybody is nearby, there is a really nice garden centre and cafe there. No ladettes though!
