Nose Piercing as a Lawyer?

I am an experienced senior lawyer with over 10 years’ experience. I really want my nose pierced! I have done for years, but what has always held me back is colleagues or clients thinking it looks unprofessional.

My clients also tend to be older. What do you think?! Would you be put off if your lawyer had a nose piercing?

I would only wear a subtle stud for work. However, will have to keep it in at least 4-6 months after piercing until it heals and so taking it out for work would not be an option for a while.

Also worried about it being red/scabby as it heals which would also not look good! If anyone has any experience with nose piercings and healing, I’d be grateful.

Thanks

Not a lawyer but I had a nose piercing as a teacher and nobody ever said anything! I have a teeny tiny diamond stud so it’s really subtle. It healed beautifully but I always go to an amazing piercing place so I really think it’s worth paying more and getting the best, as well as the nicest jewellery you can afford seeing as it’s going on your face. I love mine so you should absolutely do it!

Thank you so much! I want it done so badly, but am worried of people’s prejudices thinking it looks unprofessional - I can imagine teaching being a bit more lenient as you work with young people!

How long did the original redness last? And what did you find the best thing to clean it with?

I work in a highly corporate environment and I can’t say that I’ve come across anyone with piercings or tattoos. If your firm is fine with it, then you should be fine. If your clients already know you and you’ve built a rapport, it shouldn’t be a problem.

I would have to say the prejudices are going to be there though. I’m a millennial myself and while I know a person’s appearance is not a reflection on their competences at all, it’s still going to attract attention.

That’s true, they’re a lot more likely to tell you if they think it looks stupid though 😂 the studio sell aftercare spray - apparently the stuff on Amazon etc isn’t always right for the job so I just went off their recc. It didn’t last long at all, a day or two maybe? And it wasn’t really that red, just that I could feel it was sore.

Thank you - I have spoken with my boss and she has said she does not think it’s unprofessional, however - she is quite liberal in her views and I know not everyone (most importantly, clients) may not feel the same.

Argh, it’s so annoying! I always get back to this place of not doing it because I’m worried about what clients/colleagues may think, but I still just really want it and it’s annoying I can’t!

I do have a fake one I sometimes wear out, but I feel a bit lame wearing a fake one and want the real deal!

To be honest this might sound hypocritical of me: I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at a lawyer with a nose stud but I would double take and judge a lawyer with a septum piercing

Thank you for your view - I’m definitely just trying to gauge what people think atm!

I definitely only want a standard nostril piercing, not a septum. X

I've had my nose pierced since I was 18, and the only job that has an issue was in the food industry and I wore a skin coloured stud which made it pretty invisible. I also changed mine after 4 weeks, I wear a 1.5mm silver stud and its small but enough to be seen.

I remember when tattoos and piercings were never allowed to be shown in jobs but its common place now and I don't think people really see them. I want to get my septum done but have held back as that's more out of the ordinary but I do have lots in my ears which no-one has ever said anything about either.

Thank you all so much! I spoke to my boss about it, and she was in favour, but suggested I check the employee handbook. I did, and any facial piercings (other than ears) is against our dress code! 😭😭😭

I’m so gutted as I REALLY want it done. Going to talk to her more to see if this is something which may be able to be reviewed…but prob not 😩

Personally, unless it was for cultural reasons I wouldn't like seeing a lawyer with nose piercing. I know you won't be any worse at your job, and I wouldn't deselect you for it but I would see you as less professional looking.

Why not pierce your nose but not bejewel it for work (can you nude cover it whilst it heals/set?)
Once healed have it for outside work hours?

(I'd love to have my nose pierced but I have a fat ugly nose that wouldn't suit it!😭)

I have my nose pierced (I'm a non clinical nurse) and have a small stud which tbh I think most people don't even notice. However, when I got it pierced, my piercer (who is incredible) did offer to use a completely clear stud! Can just change the screw on stud at weekends then x
