I never thought I would agree with George Galloway but he is right here. I actually assumed people could be named from 16 and over but if this guy is 17 he is hardly a ‘boy’ but because there were no statements at all from the police it allowed misinformation to soar. Even if they hadn’t named him up front they could have said his background as I’m pretty sure they knew from the outset who it was and this would have potentially reduced the tit show.

Not hard to see how things got so out of hand this evening. For some reason some people actually seem disappointed by this, the same people who don’t give a damn about those poor wee girls, they’re just interested in their big gotcha moment.

Been on the thread for this. The thing is none of us know. He may or may not be a Muslim but the police/media massively fucked this up. The assumption here is that he isn’t a Muslim because his parents aren’t and maybe that is the case and he is just a violent man. No matter what his religious preferences he is a scum bag and I hope he has a painful life in prison.

No we don’t know, that’s the point. The usual suspects can’t wait for the facts and just make up their own.
I don’t see how idiots trashing the place is going to make the residents of Southport feel any safer, especially children. If you’re in shock and anxious the last thing you need to see when you look out your window is an angry mob and police in riot gear. And I don’t see how looting shops is helping the local community.
Where’s their respect for the wee girls who died and their grieving families?

You articulate things much better than me Nora. You’re exactly right. I never understand violence and looting in response to something like this. It’s just criminality.

The main issue here is male violence against women and girls. That should be the focus but instead, men are wrecking the place.

Exactly. There’s no taking to people like that though. The fact that these thugs travelled to Southport by train to upend the place is a disgrace. I bet not one of them could tell you the names of the three girls, I’d put my life on it.

The police need to police all communities equally ( look at us) mob rule of any denomination shouldn’t win , this guy is no better than Tommy Robinson yet never called out.

They should get Mr Burns to release the bleeping hounds on him the dirty brute. I’m honestly so disappointed in him. He seemed like one of the ‘good guys’ in terms of broadcasting.
I’m no fan of the sun newspaper due to their hillsborough coverage but I hope the journo who convinced their legal team to publish the original article is sitting back, feet up on the desk with a big cigar right now.
Also I hope the mother from the original story has got some support for her son and herself.
