Nadiya Bychkova (Strictly dancer)

I thought I'd start a thread on her as I find her to be an intriguing character.

- She is very beautiful but seems a diva behind closed doors, always seems to be involved in drama in relationships? Someone mentioned BPD once in the Strictly threads. Just found that interesting.

- She is a two time World Champion in Dancing but is probably one of the worst/least memorable pros on Strictly Come Dancing. Probably not to do with her dancing but her personality or teaching method?

- She has an inappropriately close friendship with Dan Walker (who is married). They spend a lot of time together but try to hide it by being photographed separately.
In 2019 she was also spotted on the Strictly set looking very close with her partner that year, David James who was/is in a long term relationship.

The thing she hasn't realised (or been able to make work for her) is that Strictly isn't just about dance expertise, it's as much (more, probably) about personality.

The pros who've generally had a long run of it (e.g. Anton, Brendan, Aljaz, Janette, Karen, Katya etc) are the ones who've realised that and have creative routines, and display a lot of their own personality in the backstage stuff, ITT etc. Regardless of if you like them or not (as people or dancers), you get a sense of their personality. It also helps if you don't complain about duffers (possibly what did for Brendan in the end) - Karen and Katya have had very few contenders but generally get on fine with it (bar whatever was going on with Karen last year). Even Neil, annoying as he is, probably still gets hired because he's happy to be benched, get the odd duffer or Christmas partner and be the butt of jokes.

Nadiya seems to get grumpy if she is benched or gets a bad dancer and the only celeb she's ever had a memorable partnership with was Dan. Gorka is someone I find similarly boring and unpleasant, he also seems to get snippy when he is benched or gets a bad partner.

I actually love her dancing and choreography and that she's a certified ten dance champion.

In the early and middle series of Strictly a lot more of the pro dancers had that background and you could see it in their choreography and teaching methods (the training room techniques, not the 'silly' VTs on location). Then they started sourcing pros with predominantly latin dance background (Burn the Floor etc), little to no ballroom experience and weaker/absent competitive stats. We used to get some absolutely gorgeous professional dances during that era (a lot are on YT) whereas for the last few years 80% of them have been a mishmash of musical theatre or latin dances you can't quite identify.

I thought Nadiya had a lot of potential with Lee Ryan (a marmite figure) and Tom Dean the swimmer this year. They both danced well for the start of the competition. I was actually really looking forward to her progressing with Tom, alas

I always found Dan a bit too good to be true and didn't necessarily buy his 'devout Christian' smug persona. He wouldn't be the first man to use religion as a front. I feel rather sorry for his wife as he seemed entranced with Nadiya which continued after they left the competition. Not very respectful imo and not the actions of a so-called Christian man

I'm not sure I'd like Nadiya's personality in the flesh but I respect her as a dancer.

Rumours circulating that her and Kai don’t even speak to each other since their split - they are always apart during the Clauditorium section and don’t even dance together in the professional dances. Kai seems very popular with the other pros and comes across very well.

She did well with Davood Ghadami on her first series. She always gets partnered with duds now. Wasn’t she rumoured to be dating Tom Dean? Her celeb partner from this series?
