Maybe he’ll turn out as a smarmy user who wants her story and life for inspiration for his next book like someone else suggested in the thread. Just think .. he’s hardly been in it and when he has he’s been pretty innocuous so unless it’s revealed in the next two episodes he’s the literal ringleader of a sex ring poker game night then maybe he won’t be anything more than a one-shot writer.
 
There's also Father Dan to consider regarding the murder. I've seen some interesting theories on him involving abuse/blackmail/Mare's son. I have a feeling this links back to Mare's family somehow. Maybe Guy Pearce is around to whisk Mare away to a new life far away from Easttown when this is all over. I do like the book research theory, though.
 
I just listened to the first episode of the podcast you linked and they do mention Guy Pearce and what the significance of his casting could mean. The female host was like, remember that he’s replacing Ben Miles (?), who is not AS famous. Could just be that the role is just a love interest, and that Guy P stepped in at short notice cos it reunited him with his mate Kate and he thought why not?

Apologies for late reply, work, getting home and all of that stuff🙄.

Poor ol’ Zabel, he was a sweetheart and a bit sad already prior to this episode.

I always feel that the mark of a great actor is when you see their character flaws but you just know there’s so much more there , Kate is wonderful.

I can also state right now when the series finishes I’ll binge watch it all again over half term 🥰🥰

I read somewhere that Kate called him up to play the part but I assumed it was from first casting, wrong I know.

We’ve never got over the fact Nesbitt was just a photograph, we’re still convinced he’ll turn up next series 😂😂😂.

Oh definitely - like Mare is so flawed and so raw and she’s far from perfect - but you want her to win so badly. Poor Zabel ... ☹️

😂 oh same - when this finishes and we (hopefully) find out who killed Erin, I’ll be watching it all again. Had a thought earlier - maybe Lore, Mare’s BFF is involved ... but I really hope not as she’s so decent.

He’s really attractive 😂 It’s quite nice seeing him in the ‘real world’ as opposed to American Horror Story or Marvel.

Mare’s hair I reckon is bad roots 😂 I do love the times she puts make up on and blow dries her hair nicely - it makes me laugh, cos it’s almost like the show knowingly saying ‘Yes, we know she’s keeping it real with her no make-up look, But look! A bit of red lippy and she’s golden!’

Definitely roots. As if Mare has time for balayage! I think she probably uses box dye tbh.

What's this about Zabel being oddly attractive? Nothing odd about it! Lol. Does everyone in this thread have a bit of a crush on Evan then? He's a cutie and so talented. I was pleased when I heard he was in this as I'm not so big on the superhero stuff and Ryan Murphy is hit and miss for me.
