Mare of Easttown - HBO

Wow! Just finished. The only thing I’m disappointed about is that it’s over😩

I can’t remember the Stephen King prediction, can someone spoiler share it again, please?

Also, didn’t Mare delete some CCTV from that couples house, was that footage of Ryan?

Read no further if you don’t want spoilers!

I thought it was a perfect final episode. I had a feeling when John Ross confessed that it was all a bit convenient, and that it was odd they weren’t showing a flashback (which they did later with Ryan). Haha, of course Stephen King was right 😂
I cried so much at the scenes in the car with Lore, and at her house. Cos I kind of of thought ...oh, Lore lied to Mare to protect John, okaaayyyyy. But when you find out she lied to protect her son - well, of course she did. Ryan was such a sad character - and it was a stupid, sad accident. And now Lore has to raise the baby! She needed that hug. I had a feeling that Lore would be involved somehow - they wouldn’t waste an actress like her. Suuuuch good acting from her, and Kate, and Kate’s mum.
I’m glad those of us who thought Dylan ultimately wanted to keep DJ were along the right lines 😂 what a red herring he was 😂
And Guy Pearce must have had lots of fun just playing the love interest 😂

I loved the scene in the restaurant with Frank and Faye and everyone laughing, and the wedding scene - hasn’t the actress playing Siobhan got such a gorgeous voice?! Will def watch the whole thing again.

He guessed correctly 😂

The footage Mare deleted was of the Carrolls’ teenage neighbour doing the graffiti and flipping the bird - maybe she just thought it best not to add fuel to the mutual dislike between the neighbours.

A few have previously thought that Guy Pierce's role just prove significant because of his st as an actor, I heard quite early on that he agreed to the role after a call from Kate after the original actor casted became unavailable.

He agreed as a favour to his friend and also because he was impressed with the script. It did certainly play into viewers expectations that a high profile casting must be due to more than it initially seemed!

Well I did pick DJ's father after episode 2. I knew there would be a twist when it 'appeared' that the case was solved within 10 minutes of episode 7.

Now I'm going to go back and watch my all time favourite series for the 15t time (True Detective Season 1). 🤣

I was thinking the other day I might watch True Detective again ...

Glad we can all discuss the show now 😁 It was excellent, brilliant acting from Kate, Ryan was amazing and glad Dylan did the right thing. Did anyone else think Lori got her comeuppance having to raise DJ, a child her husband fathered out of wedlock.
The tension building when Mare realised it was Ryan who killed Erin!

I wouldn't say that Lori got her 'comeuppance' as that would suggest she's deserving of punishment and, to me, she's just a mother who was trying to protect her kid - not deserving of any cruel fate. To me Lori is a sympathetic, if not somewhat tragic, character. She's the one left to pick up the pieces and raise the child her husband fathered with his 15 year old 2nd (?) cousin. What a mess!

I thought this was a one and done show, but Kate Winslet has said she'd love to play Mare again, so I wouldn't rule out a second season.

Agree, Lori doesn’t deserve commuppance. This was drama about what women suffer, put up with, do ......as much as it was about crime.

I didn’t 100% buy Dylan’s commitment to DJ, though was glad to see it. We weren’t ever shown him being a good dad prior to Erin’s death, it seems a barely tolerable burden. But perhaps his environment didn’t allow him to show his commitment to the baby and he had to behave like an asshole. Although all along that didn’t tally with how devoted his own parents were.

Thanks! I needed a recap ☺️

I could be completely making this up, but in the first episode (when he was dropping DJ back with Erin) I got the impression that he actually cared and was acting heartless because his girlfriend was fuelling that and he was trying to make out to her like Erin and DJ were an inconvenience to him. I think that's why we saw him turn on her the way he did after he'd been in hospital, and he realised he was going to lose something that actually mattered to him.
