No one is saying that these actions by Hamas are not sick, depraving and disgusting. Everyone acknowledges this. What these “feminists” are saying is that this has been happening to Palestinians for decades and the world barely registers it, including Mia Freedman who seems to think that the death of Palestinian women and children is somehow not important enough to talk about or acknowledge. If you want to be a true feminist then you need to represent all women, not just the ones from your culture or wealth. Not to make light of the situation at all - but how’s Mia sharing this post from becca crawford who is outraged people not talking about the “holucost”
Cringgeeee for some one so enraged by it you’d think you be able to spell it

I totally understand what you are saying about Middle East politics (there are other threads for that) and there definitely are people in Australia excusing the violence, albeit a very small group. But what I was referring to was the “feminists” that she is complaining about in her post who she feels are somehow siding with the terrorists. This is absolutely not happening, and having a balanced view of this situation, the death on both sides is not being antisemitic or anti feminist. It is about understanding the long and violent history of this conflict, not forgetting about the thousands of deaths every year, and that whilst horrific, this week is just another week of death in Israel and Palestine. It’s a very sad situation but I don’t think blaming Australian feminists and social justice warriors is helping nor is it fair. This is just not true, there are people in Australia walking round who think that what Hamas did is justified and acceptable and are happy to say so. I hate how Jewish people are expected to answer for all the actions of the Israeli government or Palestinians are expected to answer for Hamas. Let them mourn, they are still burying their dead, the community in Australia is small and most people here would be connected in some way to people who have been murdered or kidnapped and there have been brazen antisemitic acts in their home city.
Im not a Mia stan at all, I find her content frequently insufferable and I’m also not Jewish. I honestly would prefer we don’t discuss Israel/Palestine on this thread, not because im trying to tone police anyone or say what they can talk about but because there is so much misinformation, it’s so heated and this is a snark website not middle eastern geopolitics.
Couldn't agree more. Clearly a dig at Clementine etc. Who has been talking about Palestine at regular intervals for years and years. There is an enormous difference between saying, hey, what about the Palestinian deaths, and saying 'it was justified'. Mia seems to be suggesting the second, whereas all those feminists she accuses seem to actually be saying the former.I totally understand what you are saying about Middle East politics (there are other threads for that) and there definitely are people in Australia excusing the violence, albeit a very small group. Definitely what I am referring to. For years Mia has said nothing of the atrocities that Palestinian women and children face daily. To me she doesn’t see past the antisemitism and sees the people of Palestine and their cause as merely a group that hate Israel and Jews, confusing them with Hamas.Couldn't agree more. I do think anti-semitism is just there below the surface all over Australia and events like this give people leeway to let it out (see also racisim and the referendum) - but so is islamophobia. It's all horrific.
But Mia's piece that justifiably talks to anti-semitism and horrific Israeli deaths, but fails to even nod to the deaths and horror in Gaza of civilians, is sad.
She’s on Instagram and often writes for the SMHDoes anyone remember Kerri Sackville from the ancient Mamamia days? Whatever happened to her?

Family connections to the South African apartheid?!Not shocked that Mia is supporting the Israeli apartheid, given her family’s connections to the South African apartheid. She is someone who has never suffered discrimination or setback due to her faith actually quite the opposite. But is quick to claim to be a victim and fail to acknowledge her community’s part in systemic oppression. Why don’t you stand with women and children in Gaza, Mia, instead of excusing the 700 and rising child murders by Israel.

I'm reading Jessie's new book and I'm quite enjoying it. Has anyone else read it?
