2. Sending two black girls into a villa where men do not want black women
Can I ask a question about this? I totally agree with everything you said. I was thinking about this point the other day though because as a white woman I feel embarrassed when every year there's beautiful black women on this show who are treated poorly and passed over for white girls. And on the one hand when we saw the line up my first thought was 'this is abysmal, there are too many white people' but immediately I also thought, is it even fair or right to keep putting black women on this show knowing how they're going to be treated? What do you think the answer is (if you don't mind replying obviously) because on the one hand I feel that diversity on TV is very important and having one black woman for 4/5 whatever it was white women is just gross, but also don't want to see black women consistently subjected to this kind of treatment either?

I'm also white so not my place to answer this, but just as a passing thought, I do wonder if they actually bothered to find contestants who were 'normal' people, actually capable of thoughts and conversation instead of the vapid influencer wannabes we get, if this would automatically be less of a problem? Everyone on the show each year is just a clone of the last cast, so it seems no surprise they are always looking for the same thing. Maybe I am being overly optimistic that your 'average' man would be less subconsciously racist and small minded, but I'd certainly like to think so. It makes no bleeping sense to me either because I've quite often found the black cast members to be leagues above the white women, not just as a default of their skin colour, but because quite often the white women are fake as hell and caked in 20 inches of badly done makeup.

I don’t know if anyone is going to agree with me on this but.. and I absolutely think in previous years the diversity has been an issue (season 2 for example only had 2 mixed race people in if I remmeber correctly) but we are a week in, and have had 14 contestants so far, of which 6 of them have been non-white.. considering the UK is a country where 80% of the population is white, I don’t see how this is not diverse?

Do we have to put down one group in order to lift another up?

I get where you're coming from so no offence intended but I think it's a bit of a cop out to start the show with like 4 white women and just 1 black woman. That looks tokenistic to me. It shouldn't be a race to the bottom like 'this is the minimum number of black people we can get away with having.' The question is were there really no other black or other WOC willing to be on the show who met the requirements? I do think the show is very very white especially given it's always the POC who get booted out. I don't know if a POC has ever won the show but in recent years I can't recall it happening.
I also don't think it's about putting one group down to lift another up. It's a simple fact that for black women to get on the show they're always having to be a triple threat - beautiful, interesting, intelligent. The white women are not, they love having a few white dizzy blondes (whether they are naturally that way or choose to play up to it to be a 'character' I couldn't say). The standard for getting on the show as a black woman seems undeniably higher than the standard for the white women.

Black people discussing issues doesn't piss me off. I said when I go on twitter and the whole timeline to do with Love Island is about race that pisses me off. Literally everything I'm shown is about race, I'm not in lalaland I know racism exists and I know people can talk about love island without race being brought into it but as I've said and I'm not exaggerating all I've seen on twitter was about race.

1. I agree, that pisses me off too! And I completely understand when certain words are used it can be very hurtful when that's what's always put out there. It's nothing new though, someone acting like they like someone in order to be saved.
2. I don't understand how you know the men do not want black women. And if they don't then a new one might come in and like them. And even if none of them like black women why does that mean they can't go in?
3. I don't know what you've discussed and it must piss you off seeing something that you or someone else has endured. It pisses me off too.

I said I'm having a rant and I described what pisses me off and I've never told anyone that what they are saying isn't worth talking about. I was saying that I wanted to see memes etc about other things happening in the villa not purely race based.

And that's completely right to not like Chuggs based off what he's saying and while I've seen some other guys act a certain way to the black women I havent seen all of them but if you have then don't like them. That's the point I was making don't like someone by their actions. On twitter lots people just plainly don't like certain people and it's not clear to me where they've got that from.

Also I'd just like to add even though I don't need to because for some reason you're speaking to me personally so now I feel to be personal talking to you. You have no idea what I look like or who my parents, grandparents, siblings and boyfriend look like. You've obviously got a preconceived idea and don't know how you came to that.

I don't know where me not having morals has come in to this? I know about the problems of representation on TV and film and reality, I know! And I see little micro expressions! I know racism exists. From what I've seen on twitter literally everything that happens in the villa is to do with race... Wtf? No it's not! Different people have different tastes, different personalities thank god. Why is someone's preference bad? Why is it racist to fancy a blonde girl? (Btw have you seen an actual blonde girl, not bottle blonde on there?) Yes it's annoying when they put the same sort people in all the time! I think most people are annoyed about the lack of diversity in everyway but doesn't mean the people who are in there are racist ( from what I've seen a couple are). Again my previous post was about twitter making everything about race in relation to love island and how it pisses me off.
Well being black can be difficult, I hope the minor inconvenience of being pissed off by black people commenting on race can be something you overcome as you are a fellow black woman.. oh wait

Happy Love Island day guys x

Facts. LI shows what black woman know - you have to work twice as hard to get half.

I do understand where you’re coming from, but this series started off with 1 black woman, 1 Asian woman, 1 half Asian woman, 2 white women, 1 black man, 1 half black man, and 3 white men, maybe they could have included another mixed race girl or something, or another male person of colour, I don’t know. Also Amber won it a few years ago and she’s not white.
I will agree with you regarding what seems to be the standard for black women getting on the show. But my comment regarding putting one group down to lift another up was in response to someone saying that all the black women on the show were miles above the white women because the white women were all fake

I understand and thank you for the thoughtful way you presented the questions, many could learn from you #shade

I think the casting team need to be more honest when selecting candidates - perhaps seeing how they react when different women/ men walk in the room/show photos of them. People may be lying on application forms but if you're not interested, body language can tell a lot.

Also get a more diverse casting team and you'll get a more diverse set of islanders.

Without that, no I don't think black women or any WOC should go on Love Island until those issues are addressed.

Nope sure we don't, but that's my opinion and I stand by it, sorry if you don't like it. I find the stereotypical white female cast members to be (usually) extremely fake and vapid and it just so happens that on most series, I have found that less with the black female cast members. That isn't me knocking the white cast down to raise up the black cast, I would feel the same even if there were no black cast members. My point was, if we had a more diverse cast instead of your stereotypical ditsy blonde who aspires to have a PLT clothing line and macho gym boys who want a 'bombshell' on their arm, maybe we could expect a bit more range on who they are looking for in a mate. Again, not sure why that's offensive, but sorry if you feel that way.

I have no idea what you mean by way of replying to me. Can only think you couldn't be bothered to read what I wrote when I took the time to reply to your every comment to me. In reality I walk around with my eyes wide open I suggest you do the same and don't paint everyone with the same brush. The world is not black and white, it's shades of grey. I hope you're not so quick to judge in the future.
