Oh that’s a really kind thing to say - thank you!!
I feel really passionate about violence against women and girls… and it starts from the comments the men are making on love island
. If anyone is interested look up the “sexual violence pyramid” which completely summarises everything which you’ve all highlighted from watching the boys this series.
we do lots of work with girls and women to help them recognise the signs of toxic and abusive relationships but guess what! The next step as a society is to really focus on the “good” men
taking more responsibility to teach boys and other guys to 1) understand, articulate and manage their emotions in a healthy and non abusive way and 2) call this bullshit out when they see it - especially ESPECIALLY when it’s their own
bleeping friends.
I’ve seen the lovely men I have in my life get better at calling out male strangers (so for example they might intervene if a guy is being an ass in a bar to a women). But they still can’t seem to do it when it’s a friend they’ve known for years!
It starts with the sexist, double standards crap and then in some cases it really does escalate to all sorts. Most sexual offenders against women show a pattern of previous sexist comments. Now before anyone starts I’m in no way saying that the love island boys will do that (
) but I absolutely am saying that again, it’s a spectrum/ pyramid and having this play out as entertainment on tele is really, really worrying
RANT OVER. Thanks for listening
