Little Fires Everywhere (Prime)

I really enjoyed it but thought the ending was a bit meh. Didn’t like Mia at all and it always looked like she was pulling her lips back and snarling before she spoke. Maybe just me 🤷‍♀️ loved Pearl’s character

I totally agree, I think she is a terrible actress. She always looked disgusted.

Yes mia was a very problematic character and almost impossible to like at times.
Though I like the nuance of showing complex characters rather than a overly simplified bad while racist rich / good poor black paradigm she was hard to watch a lot of the time. Her decisions could be baffling. She was a terrible selfish mother. I hated how she treated the girl who had the abortion, however much of a privileged beat she was. She was still a child gone through a trauma and mia was meant to be an adult - show some compassion.

The storyline about the Chinese baby was difficult too. Again there was no clear right or wrong which I like in theory - but the resolution of kidnap was presented as something we should support, when realistically it’s difficult to believe the kid is in for a better life than they would have had. That bothered me a lot. Same whatever the youngest daughter is in for (I watched it a few months ago I forget her name) as she runs away from home. She was young and looked younger and she tho may have hated it still comes from a very comfortable suburban background. Don’t kid me she would last a week ‘on the streets’ or that she should be there at all.

As for the cause of the fire... what ?! Where did that come from? Sorry but it’s a big jump from siblings arguing with their mother and seeing through her bullshit to deciding to burn their family home down. That was plain ridiculous.

this show had a lot of potential, after the first episode or so I thought it was going to be very interesting. Exploring class as well as race - in the book mias race isn’t explicit and it’s more about a wealth divide . So I Initially found it intriguing the show chose to explore that bit honestly I think they made a mess of the whole thing.

Did anyone watch this after reading the book? I really enjoyed the book and was very disappointed with the show 🙁 mainly because I thought Mia’s character was completely ruined. Would be interested to hear anyone else’s opinions on this!

I’ve not finished yet and would honestly give up if it wasn’t for the fact I hate leaving tv shows unfinished!

The soundtrack is banging though 😂

This is what happens with every book to tv show/film thing. I hadn’t read this book so can’t comment specifically. I have watched the show and enjoyed it.

when we read books we form the characters ourselves not just the author so we have images in our head etc. They rarely make it to screen and have them how we thought. Also, often in books some storylines would just be too complex for tv or might not play out as well

I personally usually really enjoy adaptations and am pretty relaxed about TV shows and films making slight changes or omitting / adding things from the source material. Me being unhappy with the outcome is rare.

This is one of the worst adaptations I’ve ever seen, so many elements have been completely changed to the detriment to the main themes of the book. Mia’s character is completely different and I just don’t understand why.
