Rewatched s5 the other day and honestly that more code thing that Steve picked up on was rubbish, almost like the directors forgot to mention that H is a team of four and needed to squeeze that info in somehow.
It was obviously something Jed Mercurio came up with retrospectively when writing S5 so they had to retcon it back in to cannon. But it was extremely clunky and was a massive disappointment for the end of the series.

Yeah I always disliked the way they shoe horned it in. The rest of the show always feels so well planned out.

It’s an annoyance of mine when movies & TV shows seemingly pull stuff from nowhere to set up a new plot point, or even worse, resolve a whole storyline - which is why I’ll be SO disappointed if H is some prick we’ve not ever heard about before! 😂

I think Jed Mercurio is generally better than that, though.

Who do people think H is?

I think Osborne is a red herring as the CC would question Hastings leadership when he’s had multiple bent coppers and Kate and Steve reported him.

I’m torn but I don’t want it to be Buckells.

I love Line Of Duty, but series 5 was a real disappointment for me. I just couldn’t get in to it.
I feel that it also overplayed the H theme. I am actually not very interested in H, it’s the general storylines that get me hooked - and that’s where I felt that series 5 was lacking.
They need to wrap up the H storyline in series 6, and then have a soft reboot for series 7, where the team are pursuing other corrupt officers, not necessarily OCGs within the force, or something just to freshen it up a bit, but no more H.

Yeah I liked series 1 because it was, for the most part, focusing on a corrupt cop. Other things came into play but it was mostly about Gates and that made it interesting for me - how his team had his back because Gates had dirt on all of them.

The corrupt police officers in league with the OCG is the meta-narrative/story arc of LoD. It started with Hunter, then The Caddy, now H so when that’s done LOD is over? (maybe).

Really stupid question here 🥺😂 but in Season 1, Tony Gates wasn't actually involved in anything dodgy aside from messing around with the crime stats (obviously that's not great!) until Jackie and the hit and run etc?

Just finished season 2, don't think I'll manage to get through 3, 4, and 5 before the new series starts but I'll try 😁

Gates made a bad mistake by covering up Jackie’s hit-and-run and it snowballed from there. Steve told him “when you’re in a hole, stop digging” but he didn’t listen.
