buckles has been doing tit since day one lol. I know he didn’t kill her, but you get where I’m going surely ?😂 these conspiracies have run for years and a satisfying ending would have felt like justice for all the good characters dying
Yeah I get it but he would’ve been nothing much more than a Ryan at that point. He’s been pushed thru the ranks as time went on as everyone else was caught/killed etc.

I agree it’s not the ending most people would’ve wanted but I do think it’s a political point he’s tried to make. Rightly or wrongly.
End it with the bumbling idiot no one thought was capable of that level of corruption (even if he is being wound up from the back from elsewhere) while we have “bare faced liars promoted to the highest office”.

I hope there’s a series 7 to give the ending the show deserves.

tbh it wasn’t even so much that it was Buckles that was disappointing to me, it was the lack of any big shocks or impactful scenes. There wasn’t really any action aside the interception of Jo.

either way it’s done and that’s the episode we got. Im hoping for another series too

I think splitting the last episode into 2 didn’t work. If they had just made it the one long one it wouldn't have been as flat.

Throughout this series Buckells part was getting more and more prominent. When it was then noted he was involved in the Lawrence Christopher case, Carmichael acting suspicious and wanting him released at every opportunity you kind of knew his involvement was bigger than originally thought. I personally don’t think he’s the final man. His involvement is big enough to be called the 4th man but there’s someone above him and I think that’s Osborne. Carmichael was prepared to sit back on Ted’s confession regarding Corbett thinking with Ted having confessed, Buckells in prison, the trio from AC12 would tap themselves on the back and let it all go. She knows there’s more to be uncovered.
I hope there’s another series or I’ve wasted 10 years and countless hours theorizing for an ending that still has questions.

Not adding anything new but wanted to add how disappointed I was with not just the ending, but the whole narrative structure of this series. It was all over the place. Kate/Jos relationship was random, unearned and disjointed with no pay off. Kate/Steves interactions were all over the place from being distant and hostile to having keys to each others getaway cars and googly eyes in pub at end? Kelly Macdonald was woefully underused generally for such a boring, one dimensional role compared to prev guest actors. TH was reduced to parody level one liners. Why tf was steph involved so much? Why did we waste so much time with the old copper (cant remember his name - ironic) if nothing came of it???

I could PERHAPS see the idea in having Buckells pull a keyzer soze at the end and turn in a really scary, evil performance in the last interview with ac12 as H with the previous acting being a cover but... no? nothing? the same blank faced incompetent?

I understand prev reasoning re institutional corruption and JM making a point but that has never been the remit of LOD before, its always been a bit of entertainment with great writing/acting and twists and turns.

wont watch another season IDT
Exactly. So much of it was watching set piece action scenes play out but this series had very little in the way of plot and, following the reveal, it’s full of holes.
I bet Jed is in a great mood.

I’ve just had some toxic dreams about escaping a criminal underworld. 😬

I really can’t believe how quickly fans of the show have turned so nastily on Jed, Vicky, and Martin on Twitter. For the last two months these fans have been waxing lyrical about the show, glued to every word, and oozing praise. The minute the ending doesn’t suit their own personal narrative or their imagined finale, these people start attacking the writer and the main actors who they have been enamoured with for weeks. Dreadful behaviour.

I reminds me so much of international football. When England are winning in the World Cup or Euros, everyone is excited, putting bunting out, wearing the shirts, flying the flags, holding parties and BBQs. The minute England lose and get knocked out, all the insults and abuse starts. The team is tit, the players are tit, England is tit, shirts are ripped off and thrown, flags are pulled down, parties are cancelled. It is such typical Brit behaviour. When things are going well, the country is great. When they lose, the country is a load of old tit. This same ‘build ‘em up and knock ‘em down’ mentality is being played out here over the last episode of a TV programme.

This disappointed, nasty, shouty, online overreaction is really not a good look and it says more about the fans than the show’s writer and actors. I expect there will be no series 7 now after this dreadful backlash. I bet that, even if a new series was in the pipeline, which I suspect it was judging by the latest series ending, they won’t even bother producing it now after such an aggressive backlash. And I wouldn’t blame them. Who needs fans who drop you like a cup of cold sick the minute your programme doesn’t end how they expect it to? All these desperate complainers have shot themselves in the foot by demanding a series seven. I don’t think they’ll get what they want now after acting like such slapped arses.

I can kind of understand people being annoyed with Jed, though I don't think yelling at him on Twitter is the right way to express it.

But it's not Vicky and Martin's faults at all, they didn't write the show.

I do wonder if the cast kind of knew though - the whole thing adds a new layer to Kelly MacDonald saying she wouldn't be able to watch it and how anxious she seemed to be in interviews about it all, combined with Vicky and Martin posting their soppy posts before the show instead of after like normal and saying they were turning off their phones.

ETA: obviously not condoning the abuse aimed at Jed either, it’s his show and he can do what he wants (plus twitter abuse is never justified) just think the annoyance there is slightly more understandable. While slating Vicky and Martin (and Adrian) even indirectly just seems daft.

I don’t think it’s right that people are @‘ing anyone directly involved in it, especially not the actors - I’ve shared a couple of memes on SM and had a bit of a debrief but I wouldn’t dream of attacking folk.

I think people are disappointed and it’s ok that they are. It’s a line that’s been rolled out for a number of things in the last 14 months but it’s true, we have had an awful time and when something as terrible as a global pandemic enforces some people’s feelings of corruption and dodgy dealings in our Government, a series like LoD is escapism. And it was certainly never portrayed as a political based series as far as I know? I didn’t watch The Bodyguard because political dramas aren’t my thing.

The sad fact is, this probably is the only realistic ending but that’s not what we signed up for! The other six series have had excellent baddies, exciting scenarios and like with Thandie Newton, knowing from the off she was bad but how would it transpire etc.

I’m certainly not criticising anyone for feeling disappointed but the usual Twitter dramatics are unnecessary imo.

Okkk I have questions what a let down

I am so deflated by the ending but I think it’s been done to show no matter how many people they catch it’s so embedded they’ll never unpick it. The subtitles at the end show that

I understand the Carmichael bit at the end she has said over and over there is no institutionalised corruption and she really believed that so now Hastings has told her what he has done she either has to admit there is or keep it schtum and be complicit in it. He put her over a barrel

Some of the tweets directed at Jed especially and Martin and Vicky are so bad. Have a rant on a place like this, but going directly to them and @‘ing them, I don’t get that. Plus these people are insulting Jed come across like they couldn’t even write a shopping list, let alone 6 series of show watched by millions.
I don't understand why People do that, as you say have a rant on here but you don't need to insult people, especially the actors as they just follow a script! I do hope they film something to tie up the loose ends.

Yeah, I understood that part to mean: he’s basically told her about his misconduct (he put himself up as a sacrificial lamb - or wee donkey?!) in order to force her hand.

If she keeps this quiet, for any reason, this is misconduct on her part and she’s bent. Proving there is misconduct in the force.

If she doesn’t, and Ted is held to account, it also proves that there is misconduct in the force and AC12 must live!

And then Aslan comes back to life and the White Witch leaves Narnia forever and spring time returns.

Oh.

No?

Someone said on another thread it is a bit like GoT. Everyone has spent years on this, thinking about it, deciding on a particular ending and chatting about it on forums and podcasts.

The ending can’t possibly live up to expectations. Everyone had their own personal idea of what they wanted it to end like and JM couldn’t possibly fulfil everybody’s expectations.

There is a chink for another series but in my eyes it was a great run with great acting and some fantastic, nail-biting scenes.

I don’t agree with people @ Jed and the actors, of course that is wrong, and frankly it’s a bit weird.

That said, I think people are allowed to be disappointed if that’s how they feel. Sharing memes on Twitter or whatever isn’t the end of the world. The fact is they have been building it up as ‘explosive’ and people are invested as we have been watching this series for the best part of 10 years. Let’s face it... the finale was a massive damp squib in the end. I think to be honest even if Buckles had had a clear personality change and we could see he was in fact a bit of a criminal mastermind it would have worked better. Instead it just petered out into nothing, with loads of plot holes and no satisfying answers.

I’ve not seen anything yet myself as I’ve not been on Twitter, but I hate the thought of anyone directly ranting at Jed/the cast. Like you said @Discolights, I have no problem with people complaining on their social media (without @ ing anyone) or to their mates at the pub, but it’s unfair to do it so publicly and even more so when the nation has been singing their praises up until now.

I do feel a little disappointed by the ending, although I enjoyed the episode overall because I always do. I wonder how everyone would feel if all the online speculation and theories had been taken away, I think perhaps less underwhelmed.

I think so too. And the other thing I do think regarding Jed and the cast with social media presence (plus Craig/Dot) is that them hyping it all up and posting deliberately misleading stuff hasn’t helped. People were already frustrated with that and then an episode that was viewed as disappointing on top isn’t great.

(I wonder if the cast expected/hoped relief the big three all survived would kind of mitigate the disappointment)

Again obviously doesn’t justify any abuse but in terms of the disappointment factor etc.

That’s what I thought too, it was left completely open to film another series and tie it up, which I thought people would be happy about. It’s obviously not Buckells, he’s a bumbling idiot. He’s just like a poor Ryan doing the small work for the bigger people.
