There is literally ZERO humour left at LBC. I thought LBC was supposed to somehow reflect Britain? Oh hang on ... we're not allowed to laugh or make sarcastic comments any more are we, for fear of 'offence' so maybe it does reflect our nation, we all live in miserable O'Brien land just so that he won't feel left out for being so full of self-hate and misery.

Apparently Pat's contact was up next month ... funny how these people seem to get fired just before renewal time. Not saying what he did wasn't crass, but I can't help thinking that if he was some massive star with huge listening figures he wouldn't have just got suspended. Just sayin'.
 
This photo represents most of the lbc schedule for me. Not that I have anything against the guy, but it's not very entertaining or engaging.

I'm listening to BBC radio just because it's one of the few places not droning on unnecessarily about lineker.

Apart from Ferrari, O'Brien and Abbot all the others are just vanilla IMO. They could all be easily replaced. Even Clive Bull but I do have a soft spot for him.
 
Yep, most of them could just be called generic lbc presenter. It must be working for them financially. I guess most people just want to tune in for their 20 mins a day and hear the same stuff with no variation.
 
I heard a tiny snippet of James today discussing Fiona Bruce on QT ... did she really say Stanley Johnson beating up his wife was a one off? :eek:

Oh no, the lovely Fiona isn't another one to put on the long list of successful women he despises is she? It was a mistake for her to host QT though ... I have to concede. Did she say that? Blimey ... that's grim. :rolleyes:

I'm struggling and I'd like to know what other Steve Allen addicts are doing. I've abandoned LBC because I'm bored shitless with 101 versions of the same topic by similar-sounding, woke cautious presenters (who have families and/or mortgages and don't want to be brutally cancelled), Radio4 is almost as bad and lacks variety, Talk Radio seems to be crap.......what else is there? I want variety, humour, information about arcane subjects from enthusiasts, decent plays, 'light entertainment', stuff for adults, you get the drift.

I've been listening to Steve Allen The Whole Show podcasts endlessly since the awful deed (I'm on mid October at the moment) because it contains a mix of all the things I want (at the lightest level) from a grown-up with plenty of life experience, a benign outlook, humour, observation, and a nicely acid way with words.

I'm not the only one adrift.......what are you listening to, please guide me to a decent speech station?

I'm seriously struggling too. I'm not listening to anything else though. If anyone does have any suggestions I'd be grateful as well.

I've deflected to Spotify podcast. Desert Island discs on there which I'd never tried before, some episodes go back decades and some similar themed podcasts.
Idk if there are any other British speech stations in the UK apart from the obvious ones.

Looks like Ben may have the 10pm slot ' permanently ', he is scheduled for next week. I notice also that Richard Spurrrrrr (!) is in faded grey on the schedule, which probably means they are not sure !

What topics interest you? That was the good thing about Steve though ... he could talk on numerous different subjects, with humour and sometimes with insight. Plus his connections in 'the biz' over the years was second to none. Although I could take him or leave him Steve did impress me on one occassion when he had to fill in for an hour or two when the conflict in Ukraine broke-out, he was *excellent* ... asking all the right questions and being 'grown-up'. As I say, I was surprised and impressed.
