I think irrelevant of his twitter activity many LBC listeners dislike Lineker as he's by far the highest paid at the beeb. And as Abbot says anyone could do his job and the viewers wouldn't care.

Lineker really is bang-average as a presenter and is also hard to warm to as a person, he just comes across as so incredibly dull irrespective of his political views. It's scary that anyone cares what Lineker thinks about anything ... that's what concerns me.

I got the impression that most of the callers to Nick, while thinking Lineker wrong to make the comparison, didn't think he should be sacked.

That's how I feel. Doing I like Lineker? No. Do I think he should be sacked? Also no.

I am so sick of this attitude, that's been around the last few years, of calling for anyone who says anything remotely controversial or not in line with current thinking to be sacked! It does my head in. Same as bullying. That's a word that's thrown around left, right and centre. It no longer has any significant meaning these days.

Obviously anything downright racist, homophobic etc etc needs to be dealt with but it's all getting a bit out of hand imo.

I like Gary Lineker but I have no idea why there is so much focus on him, particularly on LBC.

Have any other football pundits been consulted? How does Ally McCoist feel about the Northern Ireland Protocol? What's Ian Wright's view on the NHS? Is Thierry Henry in favour of Scottish Independence? etc.....

I agree Fenella except there is one issue. I am a football fan and thus watch Match of the Day on the BBC.
Lineker uses it as a vehicle to make "witty" political points. The BBC should properly discipline him over that as the programme is supposed to be about football not his political views.

It's the BBC aspect that gets all the attention especially as he's their highest (?) paid employee. Also, I don't know any other football pundits that are so openly political.

I never watch Match of the Day so I have no idea what he says on there but if, as @Redvers36 says, he makes political points on that then he is out of order.

I'm not sure why LBC are so obsessed with him. It is a bit weird.

I don't watch MOTD every week but I can't recall Lineker ever being political during a normal Saturday night programme. I think he may have criticised Qatar's human rights record during the World Cup but nobody seemed to mind at the time. Seems like he's only allowed to criticise foreign governments.

Feel a bit of a fraud posting on this thread as I haven't heard a second of LBC's output today, but we all know that if a BBC person had tweeted saying that the Government policy is spot on and that we should turn back all the boats, their feet wouldn't touch the floor and the same people saying Lineker's politics shouldn't have any effect on his position would be baying for their blood.

Image is a bit small, is it a vagrant ?

I've never heard Lineker mentioning politics on Match of The Day tbh.
He's an overinflated ego mind you, most of his personal opinions come as he lounges on his Chesterfield, via the Twatter

He slagged-off Matthew Le Tessier (ex footballer) last year for making some politcal comment he disliked I seem to remember, he's the kind of person who likes to dish it out but heaven forbid someone else has a different view, then he calls for them to be cancelled or sacked. Unpleasant chap ... full of himself. James counts him as a 'good friend' ... Quelle Surprise ... Dangerous idiots everywhere these days, on all sides ... my advice: hide in the cupboard.

But the main point is that Lineker does not use Match of The Day/bbc time to comment.
He comments off camera, in his own time, which he is entitled to do.

Nor did Danny Baker. He got sacked for making a dumb joke about Meghan and Harry. I think these large corporations are pretty slick ... they sack people they don't like for doing pretty much the same thing that people they do like do. It's two-faced. Still, it's their corporation they can do what they want I guess. Makes no real difference to my life. :ROFLMAO:

It was far worse than a dumb joke, it was a really offensive, racist tweet. I'm all for free speech but Danny Baker definitely crossed a line.

Danny Baker had a long running feature on his radio shows called 'monkeys dressed as people' and that picture was his idea of a joke on the newborn royal. He had no idea of Meghan Markle's skin colour, as like me with no interest in the royals, he'd assumed from a few glances at pictures that she was white. There's never been and will never be a racist bone in his body.

I have no time for his political views either btw
