LBC Chit Chat #8 Steve Allen has left the building

That's nick abbot penned in to carry on doing 10pm-1 for the rest of the week. I'm sure he would be happy to keep doing this for a month. Oh joy, nickers and 5 serious shows a week 🙄

Feel sorry for Ian Colins and his body clock. I guess he's doing Steve's slot indefinitely.

Petri hoskins was axed from talk radio recently I wonder if she'll be wanted to take on overnights? Probably a bit too old and opinionated for the direction lbc are going

Edit ignore me Petri hasn't been axed, don't just believe posts you read on social media 🤦‍♀️

Also she's been there and done that with LBC. Doubt they'd want her though a woman on overnights would be very different.

I'm already lost without my Steve Allen podcast. I always use him to go to sleep. I use to listen to the mornings show in the evening.

5 nights of serious Nick A is not for me though I did enjoy it last night when he was discussing altering the works of Ian Fleming and Roald Dahl.

Yeah, she comes with as many negatives as positives. Depends how much they want to get someone easy in for a few months to cover while they get a longer term replacement. Although her overnight show was axed from talk due to low figures so that hardly bodes well.

They probably want more Kentish types. The kind of person people are largely indifferent to and can carry on doing the same kind of show LBC has running all day long.

I've watched LBC and Steve Allen in particular, become more and more P.C. and damped down over the last 15 years. To me the change is quite apparent. However, I'm not here to convince you, I am simply stating my opinion based on observation.

A quick example though would be of how they got rid of Nigel Farage because unlike the rest of the msm fawning over BLM a few years ago, he told the truth as it became apparent (in a tweet), that they were all avoiding.

Same with Majid Nawaz.

I don't think you can compare Nawaz and Farage getting the boot the same as Steve Allen tbh. Farage was becoming increasingly problematic with his off air behaviour and Maajid went full on conspiracy theorist.

I'd compare it more to when James Whale got the boot. He had absolutely no idea and was livid. I remember Iain Dale (who was taking over) being almost apologetic for replacing him. That's poor Iain Payne at the moment.


It's such a cut throat industry though and loyalty means nothing. Just look at the carry on over at Radio 2 the past 12 months or so. Ken Bruce has played a blinder IMO.

Me too. I’ve been listening to his old podcasts but that doesn’t seem right. Have to find another “ go to sleep” person.
It’s made me unhappy, Steve being sacked. I don’t like this compelled speech tidal wave.

Didn't they have Michael Wilson for a while? He was all right. Did the business on Sky News for a LONG time.

It's already happened. Last year Iain had a two hour chat with Steve (part of the "All Talk" podcast series). It was a fascinating look at Steve's career as well as the early days of LBC.

From memory I think it was May or June 2022.

It was a great listen.

The most open Steve has ever been about his sexuality, albeit Dale was doing the explaining and Steve agreeing

Steve doing a podcast wouldn't work (especially trying to pair him up with someone else) as it was the going out live at 4am and the interaction with the listeners that was the huge and unique appeal of the show.
