What the hell is the Billion Dollar Brain waffling on about.......back to Ampleforth....again.
Will the listener now hear about James having his first sly pint of beer in York aged 16 whilst wearing a Gieves & Hawkes, gold buttoned, double-breasted blazer teamed with stone-washed denims?
"I'm 52 and in good nick"

So Sir Ed Davey has apologised for the post office fiasco. Not sure this constitutes a sincere apology ....

Sir Ed told James O'Brien this morning: "I feel I should apologise for not seeing through those lies [told by the Post Office] but I have to say it would have been pretty tough.

After the news (above) that LBC's figures have dipped, I heard on the news this morning they are boasting about an increase!!! If somebody has sometime, perhaps you can have a look at the RAJAR site. You will only be able to compare overall listening, not programme by programme.

Meanwhile from Guido Fawkes New Radio Joint Audience Research (RAJAR) figures for Q4 2023, now released, make for interesting reading. GB Radio is up 32,000 listeners to 430,000. TalkRadio is also up as BBC listening figures stagnate and the BBC’s local radio stations see a whopping 10% decline from Q3 to Q4. GB News’ combined TV and radio output still comfortably beats TalkTV’s…

Over at LBC Nick Ferrari has overtaken James O’Brien’s listening figures and to take the throne at the station, gaining 45,000 listeners in the last quarter. That’s 35,000 ahead of O’Brien, who is steadily losing listeners…

(don't suppose James said anything this morning ?!)

The bits I read this morning were mainly stating LBC had increased across the board but not by much. The problem with a company like Global is they'll increase by 1 listener and shout it from the rooftops. Heart breakfast are doing well and Ferrari was the only one getting mentions from LBC.

I'll be honest, I never understand the figures. I just need someone to say so and so is the most listened to etc etc. All the talk of reach and stuff means nothing to me.

Oh God.....but did you know that his book is a best seller?

Still don't understand what 1.3 million listeners a week actually means.

If I tune in every day, do I count as 5 ? I've even read that it's done by hours, so if I listen for the whole 3 hours do I count as 15 for a week ? Not a dig at O'Brien (for once), I'd just like to know what these figures that get trumpeted actually mean.

I'm not a fan of the likes of Global or Bauer tbh, they have basically killed our local radio output, swallowing up local radio UK wide.
Unless you listen to online/independent radio stations it is now a diet of repetitive tit like Heart, Capital, Smooth, Nation etc with the same dull playlists.
Same applies to what Global have done to LBC, no variety just the same topic, hour after hour.

Who has written a book? Guido Fawkes ?!!

It really is a case of 'statistics, statistics' ! They take the 'best' figure and interpret it in their favour.

I think this morning LBC were saying they had 3 millioin listenrs. Having now looked at the RAJAR figures and I think this a combination of LBC (UK) and LBC (News) UK - 2,990,000 and it is people that have tuned in for at least a quarter of an hour over a week!. They complete the diary if they have actually listened for 5 minutes within that 15 min period! So, Mary switches on LBC, finishes her sandwich with the radio on in the background, decides she doesn't like what she is hearing and changes stations, but she is counted as a listener !!! You could be 'listening' to 4 stations in that hour!! I don't know what happens if she switches on at 10am and tunes away to another station, but by 11am she thinks they will have changed subject and tunes in again ... does that coiunt as 2 listeners?!!!!!!

I miss Paul Easton he used to be able to explain all these anomolies quite clearly.

I believe I read that he was standing down before the death threats.

Of course the sick irony of James potentially losing listeners is linked to Boris Johnson not being front and centre of British politics and people losing in interest in Brexit. Same thing in the US, where many media outlets lost its audience when Trump was voted out and I think that's why a lot of media outlets are currently soft-peddling any criticism of Trump because they secretly want him to win. It's a pretty sick bleeping game and all presenters and executives are playing it, even Iain Dale and Nick who constantly play dumb ..."Not us guv". Yeah right ... whatever.

Never a dull moment with Boris and Trump no matter how corrupt or nefarious their deeds. Politics became a lot more interesting and entertaining the worse they behaved.

Jobbie thrived when dissecting and disembowelling Boris. Trump's too corrupt and stupid to be true but he somehow gets more powerful the more criminal charges he collects. Villains provoke debate and extremist views so great for radio.
