Lactose Intolerance (possibly)

I’m pretty sure I’m having symptoms of lactose intolerance but it doesn’t seem to be every time I eat dairy. Mainly when I have cooked something in creme fraiche/Philadelphia cheese and a couple of times when I’ve eaten a sandwich at work 🤦🏻‍♀️

Very soon after, I’m cramping, nauseous, diarrhoea and I’m in agony for hours.

I don’t eat these things very often and it’s only been the past year or so that I’ve had symptoms but not every time I eat these products. I can eat cheese and some sandwiches and be ok, I can even have a milkshake and be fine. Strange, but it seems to be getting worse.

Are there decent alternatives to things that aren’t too pricey or am I just gonna have to suck it up and not eat these things? Any tips to ease symptoms?

TIA!

Oh poor you.
It sounds like it *could* be Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Different people have different triggers. These intestinal ailments can have similar or cross over symptoms. But yes it obviously could be a lactose intolerance.

I recently had terrible trouble with IBS related stomach pain, spasms and diarrhoea. I started taking a probiotic tablet from Holland and Barret called Optibac (there are lots on the market though). It resets your gut flora and makes it less sensitive, so less food intolerance. And it has made such a massive difference. No pain and no diarrhoea. Life changing tbh.

I just looked up probiotics and see there is one for lactose intolerance. Maybe worth a try? Certainly won't hurt. Seems to have amazing reviews.

Thankyou! I will definitely check these out. I was so fed up last night after a crappy (excuse the pun) time at work 😭
I’m not sure if it is lactose or IBS but I will try anything at this point!

The more you eat something that does not agree with you, the worse the reaction gets.

I was tested last year and found I was lactose intolerant, along with other food stuff, my life is 80% improved.

It may just be some part of diary you can't eat, whey etc.

Find someone who carries out intolerance testing, you life will be so much better.

I have a similar issue but I think for me it’s more fatty food than dairy (as I’m okay with a bit of milk in my tea etc, but cream, cheese and ice cream all upset my belly). I have played around with taking lactate which does seem to help (you take one thirty mins before a meal and it’s meant to help your body digest lactose) but tbh I’m just going down the allergy/intolerance testing route now.
