Keep sweet, pray and obey

Anyone watched this? Ive just started the first episode but the FLDS has always fascinated me.

Its such a bizarre way to live with the mutiple wives, the dresses, the hair. They all do seem happy though when you see videos of them. It seems only after they get out they realise how bad their lives were.

It’s awful to watch. And while they are all responsible for the parts they play as individuals, it’s so disturbing to see parents sending their children away to be subjected to those awful things…. Poor little innocent kids.. their little innocent faces break my heart. How brainwashed they must be to do that.

Completely agree. I dont beleive that recording should have been shown/played.
I bet there were a lot more graphic tapes that they came across. I got the feeling the women interviewed could have said a hell of a lot more too, but it wouldn't have been suitable for a netflix documentary, and too painful for them to talk about. This series has played on my mind since I watched it, and it just blows my mind and makes me sick that they are STILL living and hiding away in the same manner. Such evil dressed up as religion. Those poor people!

could you put under a spoiler exactly what is shown?
. It was a recording of the leader raping a 12 year old girl. There was a room built into the temple for the implied purpose of raping young women under the pretence of ‘making them holy’, which is quite disturbing to see as its got a bed almost like an altar. You don’t hear anything from the girl, (you hear a little from the other women standing around watching) but you hear the man saying to her he is about to do gods will etc and praying and then you hear his breathing while he rapes her. The whole thing is just sickening really. It is an audio recording of course otherwise they would not have been able to show it.

thanks for the warning I think I will most definitely be skipping over this

I find it disgusting that these type of cults that are based around sexually abusing children and demoralising women are allowed to exist in this day and age. The series was a very sad watch but I hope the victims that remain in the cult are able to escape one day.

Agreed, what I find most worrying is the women who go along with it and just watch their children abused, I think it is something I will just never understand

I agree completely. I know that I haven't been raised like this at all but surely some of them must question it and especially now! I did watch it all and I have bawled my eyes out. I actually felt sick when it said that he is still running the church

Why couldn't they prosecute all the old men who married underage girls? God knows what might still be going on there. Honestly I just find it so hard to imagine not questioning it at all!

Same, I actually felt physically sick in parts of it.
Exactly, this is what I didn't understand, they are living in a country with a clear legal system, how are they able to just get away with it? especially now when it is widely known what is happening. Makes no sense
