I can't believe there's not a thread on Jacob Rees-Mogg. I'm a huge admirer of the man, but I know others despise him in equal measure. I'll start off with his latest Moggcast (episode 69.)

I don't agree with a lot of his politics, if any, but he's relatively harmless as Leader Of The House. Don't want him anywhere near any actual cabinet positions though.

Sixtus was a Pope - all Catholics name their children after Saints, it's not really unusual, besides who are we to tell other people what they should call their children? Here's Sixtus on the campaign trail with his mum.

Would be interested in why you admire him

I know people look up to him as amongst other things he is not afraid to speak his mind, However I just see him as the epitome of the hooray henry type who enjoyed debating so much at university that he sees Parliament as a continuance of that and is more interested in point scoring than actually improving the life of the majority.

The actual job of an MP is to represent their constituents so I would be interested to hear from local people how active he is along with how helpful in dealing with the myriad of issues people face.

He appeals to a certain mindset - traditional, conservative and Catholic (or at least Christian) - if that's you, you'll love him, if not you.. probably won't!

He does know only too well how important it is to represent his constituents (he's often talks about it) but he's also a part of the government, where he is bound by "collective responsibility" - that means they speak with one voice, regardless of his individual views.

I certainly wouldn't call him a hooray Henry - he's more likely to be at a Latin Mass! 😂 🤣

Indeed, I'm technically named after a Saint (specifically one of the gospel authors). Although my family is CofE, not Catholic, and I'm an atheist, and my name (well, the name it comes from) was common even before that anyway. It's just that even as saints names go, Sixtus is an unusual one.

Although it's still got nothing on Xæa Musk or Powerful Cannon, mind you.

I expect "Powerful" will change her name by deed poll as soon as she's old enough. Unbelievable! 😧
