Welcome to the new thread, it’s Grifty Kitchen publication day 😁 roll up, roll up, for some recently revised hints and new recipes!

Yes, the ebook was withdrawn and hastily revised to remove reference to opening a tin with a small knife, or using a cloth with 4 carabiners and an s-hook as a sieve. It’s ‘elf and safety gone mad. Wait until they hear about the recycled tumble dryer water!

A free copy of the free e-book to @Grifty McGriftface for picking our winning title, words by a squiggle on the haunted bird Hellsite, who was advocating for using knives to open a tin.

As pointed out, we don’t want to add to the “download count” and we don’t have to - dear tenderstem @Notmycat has uploaded the free ebook here https://tattle.life/threads/jack-monroe-450-slop-hammertime.36376/post-13368033

Time to quit your jobs, leave your lovers and order a takeaway, we’ve A LOT to mither about!
wiki is the pink button at the top, please mark your thread title nominations with the words thread/title/nominate and no swears tyvm

I think someone/ panmacillan needs to put something in about the fry light tip. Water and oil will not bleeping emulsify without an emulsifier. They are immiscible. There will be no “creamy mixture”. They stay as two separate liquids FOREVER (unless you add something to mix them obviously). You will be putting water and oil into a hot pan and unless they have been properly mixed (using a bleeping emulsifier) into an emulsion the water will spatter and potentially spray hot oil onto you.

There’s a reason that all those ingredients are in fry light.

ETA- can a tech frau add HRTIA post from the ebook?

Better than titmas! Thanks for all the screenshots.

I haven’t been able to post but I feel I should mention that I know what an egg ring is from working at a wimpy as a teenager. Makes your egg fit in with your bender in a bun.

my tattle has been a bit broken and it asked me if I was sure every time I liked something. It’s fixed now.

Someone else observed this on the last thread too, but here’s a screenshot - so shoddy, surely this should say ‘of an evening’ ? Dearie me, what’s the betting there’s even more given that nobody seems to have paid any attention to this trash before they printed it?

The copy editor (if there was one) was probably so bedazzled by "firkling" later in the same paragraph that they missed everything else in the section.

I think we really need a clear message to come out off the back of this hilarity, something like “food banks don’t need Jacks books- they need food” or “don’t donate a book, donate the price of the book” IDK I’m not a brand manager. There s a good head of steam in laughing at the book, through to acknowledging it’s priveliged/not helpful, what really needs to hit now is that Jack is no lady bountiful - she’s skimming profits off this

I agree. There is such a muddying of the waters (not by here). All the false equivalances of 'well you aren't really poor if you can afford a tin opener' but please buy a £20 book to tell you this.
Jack writing about *her* poverty and making money off poverty does not make her a poverty campaigner.

Her bloody trump card is always “lived experience” it’s like when you say “x makes me feel…” there’s no way to say it’s not the case.
My main concern is that people don’t buy it, because if they do, they’re only helping Jack, her agent and her publisher.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AXYelf812wQR9OBEL6leCMBaAW3xSphf Could some awake Frau check this and see does it make sense? Like can you see the folder with all the SS and are they in order?
It looks in order tenderstem, but at 4.39am I ain’t checking that closely. Truly @shugabug23 you are the hero the canal needs tonight. Thank(space)you for all you do

Recap: Jack’s free e book and Grifty Kitchen itself were released overnight. The canal has not stopped laughing nor managed to pick their jaws up since.

The book is gobsmackingly bad. her meagre home has a lingering honk of toilet rolls and old tin cans. Hoarding is the new black and she recommends povs eat veg peelings like they’re living in Nazi occupied territory or are actual pigs greedily inhaling swill. The whole thing is nonsense.
