OK I'm going to repost my last post from the previous thread, cause I'm genuinely curious to see what people think she will do next...

So then how bloody long until Jack comes out and blames her autism, ADHD, Louisa leaving the home, her arthritis, the glass in her foot, the crappy bungalow, her being immunocomprimsed, Tattle, mumsnet or her cat not being a full maine coon for this cock up? 🤔😒🙄😂 Or is she just going to ignore the whole situation? Can she really ignore the whole situation? I hope Alexis keeps going with it, and bringing more light to it so at least one or both Jack or hellmans has to answer her.....
 
Can’t wait for the inevitable ‘my best mate who is a femme, butch, non-binary cyber-lawyer specialising in triangulation, has been sending me screenshots from the cavernous coven of witch-troll hybrid hausfraus, and they MADE me want to think about being suicidal so I did a racist because I’m autistic and I’ve got horrific ADHD and Cypriot hands, so back off because I was POOR for a few months, and my little boy looked at me with sad eyes!! I’m resigning from this hellscape’

(Incidentally the irony of using a meme which appropriates African American vernacular is not lost on me - a topic I've extensively discussed with my stepson who has often used similar phrases without any idea of the politics of gay white men imitating black women - but that's one for another day 😂).

I think nobody wants to see @Bellybutton lint go - you're a joy on this thread - and nobody thinks what you said makes you an awful person. Not seeing colour was a popular narrative until relatively recently: I distinctly remember a South Park episode in the early 2000s (yes, I was an "edgy" teen 🙄) where the town flag shows a black man being lynched and none of the children see a problem with it and it turns out it's because they "don't see colour". The narrative has evolved since and acknowledging colour is important, but the way in which inequality mutes black voices means that often we do not get to hear this viewpoint unless we actively seek it. Nobody is judging you for not having come across this before, but it's a great opportunity to pass around the knowledge.

I also understand how upsetting it can be to be challenged - I thought about the poster who said we were disparaging people with disabilities for weeks. But everything was said with kindness at its heart, IMO.

Some really great suggestions of resources about black experience and racial injustice, everyone. I appreciate you all.
 
I know we've moved on, but I went out for a walk for a couple of hours and came back to an in-house shitstorm. @Bellybutton lint , I hope you are still here. We've all enjoyed your posts over these past few weeks but I think it was right you were called out on your post.

Part of the problem is that white people don't call other white people out when they say something offensive. Often because we KNOW the person is actually nice and doesn't mean it and is just from a different generation, etc. etc. (By the way, you may be a young whipper snapper for all I know, but age is often one reason/ excuse to not pull someone up on something). And it is uncomfortable to say something, it would be much easier to ignore it. And apologising, responding, engaging is also hard. So please don't take the 'easy' route and leave. Sure, have a break but come back here. We love having you and we want to keep gossiping with you. But this is also an opportunity for all of us to check the resources posted and think about who we follow, pay attention to, etc.

I read a lot and have made a decision that as soon as I'm done with my current book, I'll only read books by authors who are from different ethnicities to mine for the rest of the year. I haven't ever chosen an author based on their skin colour, but I think by default I read a lot more by white authors - they are more prominently around me. So taking this tiny extra step of actively seeking out different authors may help me shift my perspective and learn something new.

Also, I love Tabitha Brown. She's def one to follow on Insta.

I don't read much any more to my shame but these were my favourite books at uni.
 
honestly our intentions aren’t to make you feel like tit or be upset, so please don’t be and it breaks my heart to think of any of our haus fraus upset! I asked about drink because it seemed so uncharacteristic & it was a tiny bit bizarre - and as you’ve said, felt more like a bad judgment call than an out and out racist tirade as it wasn’t! Something just felt off.

You owe me an apology.

My husband is a man of colour, should I look at him as a man of colour, or just my husband?
