Inside Missguided: Made in Manchester - Channel 4

Does anyone know the exact reason they lost the 26mil ?
I worked as a consultant just after these losses. Mainly due to complete mismanagement of stock so massive excess stock and lost lots of money from opening retail stores with high rents, etc.

I really didn't like working there. Everything is for show and to look cool on social media. It's was so cliquey and most people completely unqualified qnd unprofessional (which is obvious from the documentary)

That, I think, was the year they had the massive collab with Love Island. They dressed the entire cast and you could buy what the girls were wearing in each scene on the app. I work in marketing and remember talking at the time about how amazing it must have been for them - obviously not.
Collab was after the losses

Oh the other reason for the losses was bringing in a load of exec directors on massive wages (mostly from the very group). All men and left within months. One didn't start and got paid off 🙈

thats madness. Did Nitin make the senior appointments himself? Or did other people do the hiring?

I watched episode two yesterday and there was a bloke called Robin who was the chief product officer, but genuinely couldn’t work out what he did. There was a head of buying who was doing the work to agree the Christmas dresses but then when they had the meeting with Nitin he was very critical (and rude) to the junior people who were presenting. But to be honest the failure is with all those senior people not agreeing a good enough collection before Nitin saw it.

Just started it after browsing this thread...the amount of swearing 2 mins in by the creative/campaign manager  Can tell she's a crass drunk ha

I wouldnt know a label if it was stapled to my head. But I thought the Christmas dresses were dreadful

i thought the same! Every dress looked so cheap and awful, and no way were they dresses that people would save for next year. i don’t get why they can’t design something nice and classy even at the low price point??

This was such a shocking documentary. I found it really interesting that they were pretending they had these glam lifestyles and they job was great but the girl with the baby was coming in unpaid on her day off to do more work. nitin getting some free labour there.
the girl treasure living in a poor area while bragging that she gets to travel for work. She is clearly on a low wage judging by her house decor. But pretending she’s doing great in life, nitin is a very clever man and he dangles the carrot a lot. its not really free trips when your working on your days off and onky getting 3 hours sleep.
im not finished watching it but nitin speaks very well so he may had had money to start wit to be able to set up something like mg.
i feel queasy thinking of the damage they are doing to the planet. It turns my stomach.
eleanor came across quite well.
treasure clearly has a lot of issues and is living in denial about her boss babe lifestyle stevie wonder can see that she just morphs herself into what she thinks will make her look cool which inevitably makes her look childish.
the design team don’t design anything. At least they admit this.
i felt sorry for jordan liscomnb. She was so nervous on the shoot and not being given much guidance.
i know people are shocked that molly mae was being given so much money but I’m actually so happy for her. Fair play to her making great money the whole influence thing desnt last forever and to be able to make that kind of money sets you up for your future.
Treasure is so bleeping rough 🤣 just made the mistake of looking on her insta. How is she that self obsessed?! She's an absolute catfish. Doesn't she notice the thousands of negative comments about the show?!
she reminded me of a rough version of the actress Catherine Kelly when she played Becky McDonald in Corrie, she was making out she lived this high life, but I think it was all for show, every reality show has to have the larger than life person and she was centred on quite a bit due to being a gob shite.

From Sunday Times. Missguided is registered in the British Virgin Isles - so not just paying slave labour rates, not paying UK taxes either. Nitin Passi is not the owner - his father is.

Nitin hired the execs himself and all male board. All the positions of power were men (doubt that's changed). There was much fanfare at the time with annocements in trade press
https://www.retailgazette.co.uk/blog/2019/01/missguided-reports-46-7m-loss/ look at the actual reported losses 🙈

There are female heads of but they sit below execs.

Wow. Really bad hiring decisions. Sounds like they went too heavy and realised it was worth it with their sales being squeezed by competitors. Must have cost them a fortune with recruitment fees and pay offs.

so the losses went from £26m to £46m the year after? I searched for their 2019 results which suggested a small profit before interest and a one off cost of 26m. So they still seem to be struggling.

Just saw this tweet :ROFLMAO:

Missguided: made in Manchester Drinking Game

Whenever you hear the word “disruptive” - 2 fingers.
Whenever you heard the word “empowered” - 3 fingers.
Whenever Treasure swears or talks about herself - down it.
I’d be steaming then.

I’d forgotten about this clusterfuck last year (last year seems a life time ago *sigh*). It does make you wonder what the culture is like if not one person round the decision making table didnt go hang on this a terrible idea. It seems like MG live under the mantra of all publicity is good.

This was bleeping shocking! 99% of them were white. They were all unprofessional (I don't care if it's a 'young' work environment, you're still at work). The voiceover and script was horrendous. Don't get me wrong I am not their target demographic but it just sounded so cringe and try hard.

I don't understand in this current climate why they were proud of being fast fashion that is produced in essentially slave labour conditions. Aren't we all meant to be moving more toward sustainable fashion? Such a bizarre documentary.

Couldn't help but laugh when they were all like 'we're the BOSS BABES running the place' and the voiceover said 'missguided is owned by a man'.

I have worked in those places and tbh most people that applied for the jobs were white.
