I’m really struggling with this. I had hoped that I would care more for characters by the second series but they just aren’t as well rounded and interesting as GOT. The story lines, the characters, the pacing, everything falls below the quality of GOT.

I agree, GOT had interesting characters, think of The Stark/Snow family, all of whom were likeable or at least had something likeable about them, And I think it had a lot more humour, especially in the earlier series, Think of Tyrion or Jaime, or Brianne or The hound, Or Hodor, or Varys, or most of the interactions with Arya in the first few seasons, where she tends to bring a lot of light relief, learning to sword fight, talking to the kitchen boys etc...

I also find all these blonde haired actors confusing. Its hard to work out how they are related, or what side they are on... We watched the first episode, with my husband thinking that the blonde queen had aged massively .....only to realise that it wasnt Rhanerya but Eve Bests character!!

What do we think of the Milly Alcock cameo? I was quite happy to see her again but I’m not sure what the scene represented. Maybe Daemon prefers the image of Rhaenyra in his mind to the current reality?

I think it represents that he preferred her when she was young, 'innocent' and pliable. He remembers that Rhaenyra fondly because she idolised him, whereas now she's (rightfully) cast him away. He's a narcissistic chap, his favourite version of her is when he was her favourite person.

I thought the dream was a representation of Daemon's guilt. He's lost adult Rhaenyra's respect/trust and in the dream she loses young Rhaenyra's as well, the girl that however twistedly and manipulatively did mean a lot to him all those years ago. I think it hurts him more to admit the betrayal and the mistake to young Rhaenyra who thought he was some sort of hero than adult Rhaenyra, who told him off last episode.

It probably was also some twisted thing about how he still thinks of Rhaenyra as that young girl and would have preferred to have her then.

I agree and also think it's a sure sign that Daemon will go mad.

Just jumping in with something that made me laugh to myself whilst reading the thread (really enjoying everyone's input as I'm so lost with names and who is on who's side, I am seriously considering drawing a family tree to keep up!)

So, similar to many of you I find it weird that Allicent looks to be the same age as some of her children. I spent far too long with this niggling away in my brain wondering why they didn't cast an older actress to help make it more believable. Then I realised not once did I question the fact that they're also riding around on CGI dragons. My ability to accept some things and not others is clearly warped.

😂 Made me chuckle anyway.

Olivia Cook is 30 and Tom Glynn-Carney is 29 which makes a one year age difference between mother and son!

I find a one year old mother harder to believe than riding a dragon!

JMO but I really don't find Alicent's youth all that distracting. She's supposed to be mid 30s in the show and looks it. It's a cruel effect of patriarchy that happened a lot in reality, and still does. No one should be a grandparent in their 30s.

The show and book are two different continuities. I really like the dynamic that comes with Alicent and Rhaenyra being childhood friends and the same age.

They probably could age her up a wee bit with makeup. They did that with ealhswith in the last kingdom and she changed up her voice to sound older. The actress was playing an old woman by the end and she was probably late 20s/30 at the time
Same with ser crispy, he's out here looking the same age as he did at the tourney 20 odd years before
