Is there nothing he can’t do? I love how he goes from slicing heads off to singing lullabies to soothe dragons. What a man 😂

He’s definitely been the stand-out of the season.
Loved his pithy little put downs to Otto on the bridge about Aegon 😂 That whole scene was brilliant, with how it all happened before with the same characters but a different dynamic.
His genuine sadness at the news of Viserys was 👌🏼 His loyalty to Rhaenyra is a good character trait, but he’s also just hankering for a good war.

(Shame about the choking though 😬) agree with other comments about how they could have had him grasp her shoulders and still have the same tension in the scene.

It was the inconsistency that annoyed me, I think they went into it with a lot of thought and then gave up. Then again Danny was surrounded by Missandei who was supposed to be a master of 19 languages but struggled with the common tongue and grey worm who you could hear a cockney slipping out. Hey ho it's easy to judge from the sidelines 😆. They did have a lot to do in a short timeframe.

The quality of actors overall does feel higher in HotD.
She says specifically when takes control of the Unsullied that Valyrian is her mother tongue 😬 I think it was a cock up on Clarke and the directors' fault, she surely shouldn't be speaking her mother tongue with her second language's accent??

The last episode was really gripping. Felt really bad for Rhaenyra - she had little time to grieve for her father and her baby. Instead, she had to get into Queen mode as fast as possible and sort out alliances and armies. (Preferred her elven-style crown to Aegon’s Mordor style one!)

Liked the way she came over as a confident but careful ruler when she was plotting with her advisers (loved that glowing map) but was yelling “No Rhaenyra! No!” when she decided to send wee Lucerys to Lord Borros Baratheon because it was obvious the poor lad wouldn’t make it back especially when Vhagar was seen parked outside Borros’ castle. (Rhaenyra also didn’t consider how best to approach Borros, sending Lucerys with a note which translated as ‘Remember your family’s promise, Buddy’ while the Hightowers had buttered him up with a special offer!)

Glad to see Lord Corlys is still around. He’s one of my favourite characters.

That choking scene with Daemon was unsettling. It gave the impression that Rhaenyra, who is facing dangerous outside enemies, is also not safe in her own home.

That chase with Aemond and Lucerys was the most thrilling part of the episode. Hoped the little guy would get away, but sadly it looks like he ended up as dragon feed. (Talking of dragons, I didn’t know they were partial to a bit of singing)

Wasn’t sure if I would enjoy House of the Dragon as much as GOT when it started, but when it got going I was hooked. Will be back for series 2.

I feel that the series has been very pedestrian and one paced so far. It has taken us 10 weeks to get here and yet so little seems to have happened in the way of getting you on the edge of your seat. The big reveal last week was telegraphed early on and you could see where that was leading from the start. I said to my wife he wouldn’t be coming back as soon as she gave him his task. The joy of GoT is that it constantly threw you curve balls and have you interesting story arcs for so many different characters. There was dark humour and intrigue coming at you from all quarters. This just plods and seems very claustrophobic in comparison. Hopefully the next series will broaden its horizons with the inclusion of other Houses and a bigger mix of characters and interactions.
Yes, I don't know anything about the book(s?) HotD is based on but within 5 minutes of the episode starting (and the focus on little Luke) I knew something would happen to him. I don't think HotD had really delivered much in the way of twists or curve balls.

I think it was a mistake not to age up Daemon or Cristen. In fact, I'd have cast the actor who plays Aemond as a young Daemon instead.

I have been enjoying the series as a whole though. Much more so than Rings of Power.

Has George RR Martin ever explained the Targaryen hair colour genes?

Viserys had two children with Alicent. Viserys has the Targaryen white hair, Alicent has brown hair - yet both sons have the white hair.

However, Rhaenyra has white hair and has two children with Harwin Strong, yet both of them have brown hair, causing everyone to guess who their real father is.

Did Jace and Luke just get unlucky, or are Targaryen hair colour genes weaker on the female side, or (as I'm suspecting) is it all entirely a plot device so that the masses could feasibly work out that Rhaenyra fathered two children with a man who wasn't her husband? 😂

Did Aemond snitch on himself, how would anyone have known what happened when they were above clouds?!
I haven't read the books, so what I'm saying here is speculation, but I suppose there are a couple of possible reasons:

1. Aemond believes honesty is key to being a good King/ruler and he clearly has ambitions, so he just comes clean himself.

2. There were so many witnesses to him threatening to take Luke's eye, then he angrily left straight after Luke, with the implication the feud would continue the second they were both outside. The fact Luke went missing immediately after that exchange would be too hard to explain away.

And besides, no proof is really needed. Rhaenyra just needs to believe that's what happened, and she clearly does.

In the book, Arrax’s head and neck washed up on shore three days later but Lucerys’ body was never recovered. Either Aemond fessed up (unlikely imo but you never know) or when Luke didn’t return or send word from Storm’s End (that’s the last place he was seen after an altercation with Aemond in Borros Baratheon’s halls) people would have probably pieced the puzzle together.

I think GRRM likes to play fast and loose with genetics tbh. Jon Snow was part Stark/part Targaryen and favoured the Starks genetically. Princess Rhaenys in the books is part Baratheon on her mother’s side and is described as being dark-haired with silver/white streaks.

The hair change for rhaenys is one of the changes I think was stupid it's why rhaenyra and leanor thought they could get away with them behind darker hair colour because of rhaenys having dark hair. So for the writers ect to change it makes no sense to me because there was no actual reason for the change that would effect the show but them giving her the blonde hair it's again making me think the written want us on team green

Tbf I think the fact that they have black actors playing the Velaryons sort of cancels that part out. Daemon’s daughters to Laena are obviously black and Rhaenyra’s boys (who are supposed to be Laenor’s) aren’t. Though you’re right, they didn’t need to change Rhaenys’ hair at all in that case. Perhaps they thought non book readers would be confused that she’s a Targaryen with dark hair maybe? Who knows? 😂 😅

Thought this was interesting from Emma D’Arcy.

The genetics of the Targaryens are a bit different in the books as they are also meant to have purple eyes but they never went for that in the show.

Also not all Targaryens have the 'look'. Prince Rhaegar had 2 children with Elia Martell and only his son looked Targaryen. Also if Rhaegar fathered Jon Snow as per the show, Jon is said to look the most Stark of all Ned kids.

I'm glad they talked that scene through and were OK with it. It does make sense that Daemon has lost control in that moment. He is essentially a violent man who processes things through anger, and he did cause his first wife's death after all. He has also lost one wife and child in childbirth and then lost another child the same way. There is a lit of mixed up stuff going on in that scene. He is a bit of a warmonger and his wife, who is more powerful than him is refusing to fight for her birthright. It was a horrible scene though, and I hope the new writers in season 2 don't make it into his regular thing.

Yeah I really like corleys actor think he did a great job. I think because of how they changed the velaryons that's why they should have not changed her hair to blonde because there was still the obvious there not leanors kids 🤣.

I like that they are talking about the part and how they took it.

I think they only don't have purple eyes due to practical reasons. They tried it for GoT but the contacts were too uncomfortable and affected the performance apparently.

Maybe in the next spin off we'll get it as AI gets better and can digitally change the eye colours with minimal human input.
