Home and Away

Yeah, it's pretty boring since it turned into the Rose & Xander show. They only moved to Summer Bay to get to know Jasmine, so they should probably leave now.

They need some interesting new characters (new characters have been pretty poor recently - LYRIK), a new family would be good.

i barely watch the show these days. Finding all the new characters very boring, shame as I’ve watched for almost 30 years

I cannot stand Xander - the actor is terrible and is clearly only there because he's a Hemsworth relative (cousin). From his monotone voice (when he's not whining) to boring storylines, he brings nothing. Rose has a bit more drive but I don't like her character either.

Aside from Remi (who I find charming), I'm not liking the band very much ... a band is better than gangs though.

The new doctor seems nice (not sure if she's arrived at UK pace yet?).

Why, oh why can't they find someone for Roo? Toadie from Neighbours said how he'd love to work on Home and Away - give him a go!

I read earlier in the week that the actress who played Bella wants to return - it seems to be a common theme with departed actors who perhaps don't realise how good they have it while they're on the show.

Yes I like the new doc too. I read she is going to be part of a
domestic violence storyline
so hopefully that will be dealt with sensitively.

agree with this I find xander really annoying I’m even disliking cash it’s all so boring and no gripping storylines

The Xander/Rose and Cash/Felicity stories are awful. They’re too involved for brother and sisters and they just seem to take turns each week were one of them becomes an absolute basket case.

Don’t like the band so far. Trying too hard and ending up cringy. One of them really looks like Phoebe that used to be in it.

Intrigued where the Marilyn and the girl being tutored is going.

Ha! I guess the Hemsworth connection explains how Xander got the gig. I didn't know that. He's terrible as is Rose who I just find unlikeable. Now that Jas is gone there's not much point in them sticking around.

Why did Bella leave in the first place if she wants to return already? She could have saved us from the silliest break-up of all time. On that note: what happened to that girl that was into Nick? She was a nurse/he saved her sister from drowning. I thought she was joining the show but then she disappeared.

As for Heather, I think it's obvious where things are going with her. I'll put my guess in spoilers in case anyone doesn't want to discuss upcoming storylines but
it seems obvious that she's Marilyn's daughter and that story she told Roo about giving up her kid was actually about Marilyn.
I could be wrong but seems obvious that's what it is.

The characters from LYRIK are growing on me a bit - but I find their gigs pretty cringe.

I've put this under a spoiler in case my question ruins the surprise for people who don't know...
How old is Heather meant to be? Early 20's ish? The timeline is already bothering me and the storyline has only just started. Byron was born in 1999, so would be 22/23 ish. So this would have been either just before or just after that storyline. Marilyn wasn't that young then. I vaguely remember her leaving for a while, possibly to go to England, after he died. I know it's only tele but I feel I need some more info. It really bugs me when timelines of things don't add up. Grrr!

[Didn't Marilyn leave from 1992 to 1995? Maybe it was supposed to have happened then. Heather doesn't look like she's in her late 20s or 30 though. Home and Away has done this with certain characters before and the age jumping. VJ was born in 2001 but when they changed the actor who played him in 2014 he suddenly aged by a few years. Also done with Olivia, where they actually made her younger, and Sally's daughter.]

Yeah she joined in 1989 then left a few times in between coming back as a permanent character. Heather definitely doesn’t look late 20's though. I presume they will explain it at some point

What happened to Roo's job as an English teacher? I know that there are no teenage characters in the show anymore but it's so strange that we never see any high school uniform wearing extras walking along the beach or in the diner like before. Did the school just disappear or did the new staff decide to lock up the teenagers and not let them wander the streets of Summer Bay because of the high level of crime that seems to have taken over the town the last few years?

The high school and the uniform were such a iconic part of Home & Away 😌 just another reason the show isn’t the same anymore

They never really explained Ziggy's sister's continued absence either ... in real life the actor apparently left - temporarily - to finish her exams, although wouldn't she have known they were going to be coming up ... so why even take the role in the first place? Maybe she was struggling. They did used to have a tutor on set, but with few kids on the show it was probably another expense they didn't need ... although in saying that, Raffy was a similar age to that she played, so they would've had to have the tutor on set anyway.

Many of the changes (fewer cast and crew, fewer outdoor shots, etc.) were explained as being due to Covid but now things have sort-of returned to normal, they haven't been reinstated.

In real life, the building that holds the bait shop, upstairs apartment and cafe has been torn down to make way for a replica (but better built, without all the problems), which is why we don't see it on screen anymore. But having the coffee cart randomly set up on the lawn like that just looks misplaced.

The house where Alf, Roo and Marilyn live is quite a distance from Palm Beach - I don't know why they don't try and find a house closer.

Aside from the doctor and Remi, I don't like any of the new characters. They're just blah. I also struggle to understand what Xander is saying - he just mumbles.

I was always amazed that Home and Away did no social distancing compared to the other soaps.
