Hocus Pocus 2

I enjoyed it. Nothing on the first though, i loved the brother/sister relationship with Danny and Max and also just preferred how the original seemed more old. The new one seemed quite 'clean' if that makes sense, i feel like the excessive CGI and 4k now days ruin these kind of films šŸ˜‚ but really enjoyed the storyline and the sisters were on point. Excited to watch it again

I'm surprised to read those reviews, especially the woke comments. I didn't see anything 'woke' about it really, there was no social message shoe horned in except briefly which was a bit of an eye roll lecture (why can't writers be subtle these days without having to literally explain your message) but as it was done with humour and only brief its easily forgotten. I thought Froy as Mike was very funny, Belissa was also very strong with some funny moments. Whitney as Becca took a little to warm to but she was better here than in the gossip girl reboot

The original cast weren't asked to come back apparently

The three witches are apparently open to a third film, but that would need a strong story. Much of the humour comes from the developments in technology and society in 30 years. But if they can match this ajd the original id love a third film. A disney plus tseries on the 3 girls wouldnt surprise me either, not sure id watch it though.

Also, there is a post credit scene for those who switched off
I dont understand the woke comments.

I really enjoyed it and the nods to the original. Bette Midler is fab but was anyone else slightly disappointed with SJP. I just felt like she couldnā€™t get fully back into character. Also couldnā€™t believe the change in her voice, so all I could hear was Carrie Bradshaw.
I was put off by her eyebrows to be honest!

I really enjoyed it. Never going to top the original, of course, largely thanks to nostalgia, but it was still good fun! Will echo others on here that I genuinely donā€™t understand the woke comments?! The main teenage girl was black? Is that it? Seriously?
Apparently its too 'left wing' because (this is based on a reddit comment I saw): the straight white male characters are seen as dumb or bigoted, religion is seen as 'bad' based on the opening scene (I actually thought that made sense in a film about witches, since its usually the uber religious people who were afraid of the concept of witches back then??), they had drag queens on stage and showed a gay couple for like, 5 seconds. :ROFLMAO: Oh also the fact that all 3 of the main characters are girls this time!

The only part I could possibly consider 'woke' is when becca did her little speech. It did jar with me a bit as took you out of the moment. If you're going to put social commentary in then you shouldn't have to literally explain it word for word. But its such a small moment it's easily forgotten and over in a second.

Just watched it with my girls and we enjoyed it. Obvs for me the original (and the crush I had on Max!) will live in my heart forever but I liked the jokes about the modern world and seeing the ā€œSistaaaaasā€ back. I quite liked how it ended; they donā€™t need another one! And the original will always be the best.

Its a historical fact that Christian Church used to burn people at stakes. Donā€™t they know the history of Salem? Witch Trials?
The fact that grown ass people donā€™t even know simple history they teach you in elementary schools explains all the twitter rage over a movie that has poc in leading roles

Watched the original one last night for some extra nostalgia. Man itā€™s just perfect. As a kid I was completely obsessed with the ā€œi put a spell on youā€ musical number I used to rewind the vhs over and over just to watch that part šŸ¤£

That's something I felt tye new one got right and did better. The problem with the original is I always felt that song and scene ends way too soon

oh totally! I watched the original after, and itā€™s the voice, the physicality, everything. I know itā€™s been 29(?) years but the other two managed to slot right back in. I think with all her post-satc hype and A-listness, SJP is very far from the character/musicals actress she was when she did hocus pocus, it was made years before satc and her singing and dancing about make sense in that movie when you know she got her start in Broadway musicals. Now she is just more stiff, more polished and Carrie-esque as thatā€™s her brand, being ā€œfashionā€ and cool. So it didnā€™t surprise me but was a bit of a shame.

Yes! You explained that much better.
