Hamilton

I loved it. My husband is a bit obsessed so we'd seen the London show twice but it's amazing to see the original cast on TV.

Daveed Diggs (Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson) and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Angelica) in particular are brilliant.

I loved the King George in this version but Michael Jibson in London was even better (he won the Olivier award)

Funny how everyone sees it differently - I thought Michael Jonson was great (I saw him too!) but I preferred Jonathan Groff. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Jibson sorry autocorrect!

I wonder if the majority of brits who see Hamilton advertised on Disney plus will know who Hamilton was?

Let’s face it - despite its being linked to the revolution war with the Americans and us british. We never get taught it in schools here, weirdly enough.

Did any of you know who Alexander Hamilton was? I had no idea who he was before I listened to the musical

A physiotherapist who comes to my work , In her 40s, bought tickets thinking it was about Lewis Hamilton, the f1 driver. We were all shocked and appalled.

I LOVED it!! I’m now obsessed with the soundtrack.

King George was so funny. I think I’ll watch it again but with subtitles on 😂 I think I’ll enjoy it even more second time around. I kept pausing it and saying to my bf “which character is this one now, didn’t he just die?”

I watched Hamilton on the West End last year and I have to say it wasn't what I was expecting but it is such an incredible musical! I never thought a show could be made about something so dull which is so gripping. There are loads of quirks/satire in it too (the King for example) which I love.

I've just finished the Broadway version on Disney+ and it's just as good, although I have to say I prefer the actors in the live version I saw.

Well worth watching but I recommend subtitles or listening to the music beforehand as I know some people have said it's tricky to keep up with.

Im gonna try it again with subtitles as I just didnt get it when I first watched and gave up 20 mins in!

Exactly the same as me. I wanted to love it but it didn’t hold my attention. I will try again. From the bit I saw I can see the genius of it though. It’s really well done.

I really want to wear one of those huge dresses the women are in!

Been wanting to see the show so I’m so happy it’s been put on Disney+. It’s such a fresh take on theatre which I really enjoyed, with the hip hop, beatboxing etc and it was also really funny in parts.

I watched with subtitles and would recommend to do so. It’s very fast paced so it’s easy to get lost and confused. I also read a few things online before hand (nothing spoiling) just to wrap my head around the story beforehand - which I also recommend to do. Definitely stick with it though, it’s very heart warming in the end and made me shed a few tears.

When King George came out I was wracking my brain as to who he was and how I knew him. Then it clicked, Mindhunter! I couldn’t believe it, it’s so far from Holden Ford 😂 He was brilliant, maybe my favourite.

Every time I watch theatre I always get the sudden desire to quit my day job and become an actress on stage. The atmosphere is electric, I’d love to experience that.

To be on broadway you’ll need a good few years of experience first. I used to do drama school a few years back and musicals growing up. It’s not as easy as people make out it is. You need to be able to sing to a degree and it’s memorising everything. And not to be tit afraid of the audience. Auditions aren’t as easy as they seem either.

A lot of the Hamilton cast have already been in other things before this. The youngest member had it a bit easier getting the role of Philip / John who is played by Anthony Ramos. Puerto Rican New Yorker (he is actually engaged to the mixed race girl who plays Maria - girl in red in real life. They met on set!)

But he was already in the guy who wrote Hamilton’s previous short musical names “31 Chump Street” and he had a very bad situation after he turned 18. Financially unstable, he was going to go in the army after high school because he just couldn’t afford to go college and someone recognised his talent as an actor in a school play. Got him
Signed up with an agency and housing accommodation. He didn’t live with his mother anymore as she couldn’t afford to keep him (they come from a broken estate in Brooklyn) and so he had to move out.

He was very lucky to be honest. Now he’s got roles going for him, an album, a beautiful brownstone home with two dogs, a fiancé and he’s doing well.

The guy who played Jefferson / Lafayette aka dude with the Afro. He used to be homeless a good ten years ago. As an actor and rapper it was hard for him to get skits. And he was sleeping on trains and his friends sofas to save cash for a deposit on a cheap flat.

The dude who wrote the musical, Lin Manuel Miranda. He did come from a wealthy home but he was badly bullied at school. He was in House back in like 2010. He worked in McDonald’s as he did acting.

It’s quite interesting their tales. Makes them all that much more real.

Just remembered I didn't check back in here after I watched. I LOVED IT! I've been listening to the soundtrack non-stop since, and I definitely want to see it on Broadway when we eventually make it to New York (sob).
I’ve been listening to it non stop too. I’ve even converted my husband - I can hear him upstairs singing “it must be nice, it must be nice... to have Washington on your side” 😆

I’ve been listening to the album too!! I watched it for a second time last night and couldn’t sleep after, I was so wired, I had the soundtrack playing over in my head all night!!!!!
Im obsessed

I saw it in London last year. It is even better in person but they did a great job with the recording. The London cast obviously are different. I preferred the London king George. I also preferred the Lafayette in the London version. The music is so good. I missed some parts on first hearing the CD before I went to the show that I then caught in the live version.
