Halloween (1978)

I’ve seen them all, I find h20 to be the worst of the sequels for me, I just couldn’t get into it
H20 was the first one i watched aged 11!
Been years since i watched them all but the new one wasnt to terrible the first time round. Not as good as the originals.

The original was truly a classic for its time, not least for the memorable opening scenes and the simple yet threatening keyboard signature.

As for the sequels - well just like the Alien, Jaws and Terminator franchises, they get steadily worse.

Carpenter does some of the best scores and the simplicity of them make them so iconic. Assault On Precinct 13 is another favourite. I’m a bit of a film score nerd so always really enjoy his scores and how they become a character in the film at times like John Williams Jaws theme became one.

The original Assault on Precinct 13, was another true classic, not least for the low budget, mostly semi-pro actors, great editing and of course the score!

The Carpenter/Alan Howarth composer partnership was also a hallmark of early Carpenter films

Yes!!! Part of the reason I love Halloween 3 is Howarth’s contribution to the score. Escape From New York is another iconic score from him. Do you like Goblin too? I could probably derail the thread talking about film composers haha

If it's the same Goblin I'm thinking of, didn't they do the score for Romero's classic zombie film "Dawn of the Dead" (78 version)? I vaguely remember them doing some work for Dario Argento back in the 80s too.

Getting back on topic, think I might rewatch the original Halloween tonight, not least because I'm sure one of the songs was "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult(y)

Thats right, they scored a lot of Argento's stuff in the 70s/80s.
Blue Oyster is playing when Laurie and Annie are in the car smoking.

I watched Halloween last night. It's been awhile since the last viewing and despite looking rather dated, it still carries the same sense of menace, dread and foreboding as it did when I first saw the film back in the early 80s. I saw at a local cinema. The film was rated "X" (just before the new certifications came out), and I managed to convince the woman at the box office that I was 18 (even though I was about 14/15:D)

I fell in love with JLC back then - not a great actress, but she was very easy on the eye. Also impressed by the performance of veteran actor, Donald Pleasance too!
