Yes, that whole bit was odd. I reckon Rebecca had genuinely forgotten to sew it on, and the director had thought it would make a good bit of telly if Esme came along and spotted it lying on the table and told her off. The bit of material was very conveniently sitting on the table on its own and wasn't exactly hidden

Such a shame Farie couldn't finish her garments! She's has a lot more creative flare than Rebecca, but they couldn't really put her through

I agree that was very odd. In real life if you had a piece left over like that you'd try to work out where you'd gone wrong. The way it was sat there and Rebecca was like "Wow, I hadn't noticed that", that was clearly a manufactured situation. I can't remember judges stepping in before to assist sewers when they've made a mistake? All very, very odd.

It has happened before were the judges would come along and point out an error before a contestant went horribly wrong, but agree that this was very set up.
 
I've been watching the older series that are on Iplayer, and the previous judge May was more about the sewing and finishing, I think Esme focusses a bit too much on design and colours and patterns when that doesn't necessarily correlate to good sewing. I liked Esme to start with but she's starting to grate on me now. I think Serena has technically won more tasks than Raph but from watching previous series this week on a binge, one winner was the underdog and a real surprise, so Raph could easily win also. Rebecca won't win unless Serena and Raph mess up all 3 tasks.

You're right. They aren't meant to be designers. I think it's gone that way more, but agree that in the earlier days it was purely based on sewing skill.

I think in the first series they made a purse or bag, too.

Farie should have gone weeks ago - much as she is a wonderful sewer and designer she just can’t finish in the time allotted. Of course it’s an artificial time limit but she has been lucky that others have messed up big style and she’s been saved by some amazing final challenges. This week she just didn’t hit the mark.
Rebecca has managed to get through by being middle of the road and not messing up too badly on anything. I agree that it was set up with the missing fly, but tbf the judges have stepped in with things like this before and it wouldn’t have made that much difference.
I love Raph, I think he has real creativity and then can also translate that into the sewing. Serena grates me but she is technically the best sewer and her transformation and final challenge this week were both stunning. I would wear that final outfit in a heartbeat
 
@Adayinthelife totally agree on all points.
I think it’s Rebecca’s attitude that annoys me. The set up competition against Serena is annoying yes but it also feels like Rebecca is either gloating or giving up. Unlike Damien or even Faire she doesn’t seem to be able to have a sense of humour about herself. I worry about her stress levels to be honest.
 
I did think Serena's made to measure was a knock-out, but last week found her Dreamgirls dress rather frumpy. Absolutely adored Raphs disco Dreamgirls outfit, thought it was garment of the week, but wasn't a lover of the Dior one last night.

It's going to be so close. I think Raph might do it as he has a better track record on the final challenge, and that seems to be what it comes down to most weeks

I agree - I really liked Farie but was surprising she made it for so long considering she didn’t finish a piece on many occasions!

I love Serenas outfit, I’d wear it in a heartbeat. Agree about Farie too, it was really bugging me by the end. It’s the same in any of these shows, you can’t make the same mistake every week and stay in. That doesn’t seem fair to the contest who make one mistake and get the boot. I’d watch her make stuff without a time limit tho 😊

And yes the final is def Raph and Serena‘s to win and I can’t call it which I really like.
