Great British Bake Off #3 2022

Julians been doing a bit more serious acting than comedy plus narration. It’s unlikely he’d do bake off as he’s not really a presenter unlike Noel who was doing buzzcocks for years.

There’s a few people suggesting Ellie Taylor which I’m unsure about as she’s a bit try hard quirky (she’s funny on insta sometimes but she’s very much that girl who always banged on about how random they were if that makes sense). Noels more naturally a bit kooky and it doesn’t come across too try hard. It’s needs a sandi again to balance Noel out two comedians is too much. Noel and Richard A are a good team but only on stuff like big fat quiz and travel man they wouldn’t work on bake off. Maybe they try it with just Noel because I’m super struggling to think of anyone. Rylan comes to mind but he’s mostly bbc.

I thought Ellie was very good on Throw Down, far better than the regular presenter. She interacted really well with both judges and contestants and, similarly to Stacey Solomon, appeared genuinely interested in the makes.

I will happily start a petition to have Julian Barrett join Noel!!

This was mine and mr. Voltaires conversation. It would be amazing! The joy of old bake off was Mel and she not having to try, and just being themselves and funny together.

(I mean, they also got actual bakers rather than ticking boxes…the cool one, the pretty one, the one who learnt in lockdown, the old but cute one, the one with a funny accent etc)

Well I’ve just finished watching the series…yes I’m late to the party lol. What a rubbish final!! The bakes just looked like they could do with another hour to finish them, no imagination and not show stoppers at all. I know Britain is very diverse now but where’s the traditional British bakes now? Most of them couldn’t get the basics right but bung a load of flavours together and hope for the best. The best challenge was the lemon meringue as they had to use basic baking knowledge to achieve it. I do think they need to stick to the basics with a twist as all it seems is who can cope under pressure which when you’re a home baker you don’t have to cope with. If people are still baking pastry with a soggy bottom or bread that’s not proven properly close to the final how on earth did they get in the tent in the first place??

Because they fit the cast they have for Bake Off. Sadly the days when baking ability had anything to do with contestant choice or who wins went out the window years ago. Still smarting after the joke that was last year #Justice for Jürgen

There was an article in the paper a month or so ago about how the challenges are pretty much impossible to do in the time/ the instructions for the unseen challenge are deliberately vague as it creates drama. The writer of the article is a pro chef/baker and said they couldn’t complete the challenge in the time and the instructions were deliberately misleading.
I am currently catching up with the latest series. Carole is just the new Lizzie ( the « quirky one with bonkers hair »), ugh. Janusz is quite likeable though, and Sandro too. I think they will be in the final. Rebs has potential too, and Maxy too ( they are the « pretty ones » this year, I think). Dawn reminds me of someone, but I can’t think who, but I love her!

Oh, and for presenting, would Sara Pascoe work? I loved Mel and Sue in the early series, as well as all the food history segments where one or the other of them would go and meet an expert/someone who uses an old-fashioned method of making one of the recipes. They had a great rapport with each other, the contestants and Paul and Mary ( who I also prefer over Prue). All the double-entendres were great and actually funny, Noel and Matt seem to cater more to school-children with their cruder/stupid humour.

Yes its very odd! He has hardly had any screen time at all! At the beginning I thought they were concentrating on the ones going earlier, but even with only 4 of them, he hasn't had much time.
He and Rebs were ill in week 3/4, and I didn’t even notice until Noel or Matt mentioned it!

Sorry but this helping each other isn't that cheating?
I used to like when they would help each other, it was so different to other competitive shows! Everyone seemed to get on and support each other, now it’s every person for themselves!

oh Sarah pascoe would be a great shout. I really like Noel but it’s so awkward as you can tell in the contestants eyes they really want to tell him to get lost. I mean if I was baking something under such time pressure I would also feel like telling them to get lost 😂. But it doesn’t make for good television. Just cringy.
