Great British Bake Off #3 2022

I feel as though we hardly saw any baking, where did Sandro’s other layer go for example. greedy channel 4 just trying to squeeze more adverts in. Big changes need to happen next year. The whole thing is stale and it’s such a shame
This. No mention of the missing layer.

And his face when Paul refused to try the extra cakes he made for the signature challenge as they weren't on the brief.

And I missed the end credits of what each Baker is now doing...not their meet ups. I like that part as you never remember the first person who was sent home.

I'm glad Syabira won in the end - she was IMO the deserving winner this year.

Not the most wow of a final. The finale showstopper is usually wow and pulls out all the stops but it was lack lusture for me this year. Nobody did anything special. The decorating was basic, it was like they all ran out of time.
That being said - I couldn't do anything like what they did in a month of Sundays!

The challenges are always given too little time . Viewers hardly get to watch the baking sequences , the camera is flying around everywhere . Bored of the themed structures every week . Would prefer - bake a wedding cake , etc . Also the decorating is often low standard they should have more challenges focusing on proper techniques

I too wish they werent doing so many 'professional' recipes. The whole patisserie thing is fine for bake off the professionals, but these are amateur bakers.

And can they sort out the technicals. Syabira and others were too confused trying to make things, often British high tea staples, like the Summer pudding/bombe thing last night, that they had no idea what they actually were. Others might include lemon meringue pie etc.
Maybe they need to include a photo of the finished dish at least, so that contestants have some idea what the end product is meant to look like. It puts some contestants at a massive disadvantage. Pru and Paul might have grown up with this sort of cake, but not everyone does.

Ive never eaten a bombe thing, Ive only ever seen it in recipe books, its a bit ridiculous if you dont know what the end result is meant to look like, until you see Pru and Paul eating it.

I thought Syabira was a worthy winner last night, but it might have been better if they could have all finished with something amazing as their showstopper, instead of something a bit meh!

Can't help but think it's unfair to allow the entire success of a technical bake to depend on one tiny bit of information that they may or may not know e.g. the vegetarian gelatine thing. Sandro is out of the running because he didn't know one process? They are supposed to be amateurs after all. Seems harsh.

I'm glad Syabira won because she was the best on the day. But I agree with what others have said about the overall standard being lower than usual. Bit of an underwhelming final.

I didn't feel emosh like I did last year when my boy Giuseppe won 🥹

I actually did quite like the concept of “make a lemon meringue pie” as it tests who really does know what they’re doing, but the technicals were mostly ridiculous and unachievable. The lack of instruction is probably something I’d want to see at a professional level. That said, I’ve never watched the professional bake off 🤣

The whole series has felt rushed because they're trying to cram too much in with too many stupid challenges. Even the ending which normally makes me emotional haha where they catch up with the previous bakers felt rushed and forced like they knew nobody really cared. It also seemed like the bakers hadn't really formed any friendships with each other.

Also, is it me or does it seem like there's less time spent getting to know the bakers? I know they do a bit in the final where they film the family but didn't there used to be more of that at the beginning as well? Could be another reason why noone really feels attached to any of the bakers.

It was just all a bit tit really wasn't it? I feel sorry for this year's batch of bakers and I hope the producers listen to the audience next year

I'm sure there used to be more snippets of the bakers in their own homes and kitchens all through the series which was really interesting.
I get Covid put a stop to that as they were all in a hotel the whole time, but they could reintroduce it surely?

Syabira's partner seemed lovely until he referred to himself a "boyfie" which gave me a full body ick 😬
Has Syabira got a boyfriend? She never mentioned him...

This. No mention of the missing layer.

Yes that was a bit mean. Sandro should have been told they wouldn't be judged before he started. He said he ran out of time so he wasn't going to do the top layer.
Even the end credits were a bit rubbish this year.

The bombe was really a summer pudding, but with extra layers. The whole point of that pudding is to use up stale bread, but they had to use straight out of the oven stuff, just far too soft to hold all the juice without falling apart. And it is usually left overnight to firm up before turning it out of the pudding bowl. So I cannot ever see that it would work properly. So it goes back to the custard week, where a tiered cake had to be made with it. Not possible. And why use vegetarian gelatine without telling them it had to be boiled? I am an experienced baker, and I have never used vegetarian , so would have no idea. Just bloody silly. It’s as if they are setting the contestants up to fail. Even cutting newly baked bread thinly is nigh impossible, no wonder Sandro’s sandwiches were so thick. As an aside, apologies. Many years ago, a very posh lady asked me to tea, and presented a summer pudding. My slice had mould on it, but I didn’t want to offend her, so I ate it. But I cannot see that pudding without remembering, and wanting to barf.
