Great British Bake Off 2023

Is it just me ( probably ) but is Dan beyond ANNOYING ?
He’s so desperate to appear happy go lucky but wants to win so badly ?
I cannot stand his grin with all those yellow teeth.
Rant over !
It’s when he says well done to the others, grinning through gritted teeth and hoping no one can read his mind! Don’t mind who wins as long as it’s not him.

Has there been any stand out bake this series? I honestly can't think of anything. Nothing that sits in my mind like Nadiya's pop cake, Victoria's Blackbird pie cake or Paul's lion bread.

I think Josh's illusion showstopper from biscuit week was amazing. It feels so long ago but surely belongs in the bake off hall of fame?

Based on baking ability Josh should probably win.. but I'm still backing Matty as my fave!

I can’t stand him either. He’s probably a nice person but we only get the cherry picked view of the contestants.
They have dialled back the complexity of the challenges this year, which I think was needed, but the end results have been less spectacular.
Looking at Josh’s showstopper last night that’s definitely the case, it looked stunning but not showstopper stunning like his Christmas themed one was it last week with the snowman things. I actuay want Josh to win mostly because he’s from the same county as me. But mostly because he seems the quiet unassuming one that mostly pulls it out the bag and has some stunning work I can only ever dream of producing. I can barley bake brownies from scratch let alone anything the bake off contestants produce.

I felt last night's episode was going to be a tough one to call beforehand. It really was going to be down to who let the pressure get to them the most and in the end that was Tasha.

My husband doesn't really watch it, but looked at it for a while last night, and even he said unprompted that Dan comes across as smug.

It's going to be hard to call the final - I'd like either Josh or Matty to win. Again it's going to come down to who lets the pressure get to them the most. I'd expect that the bakes will be ok and not wow - I feel mean saying that because I'm far from a start baker. But I think the final will be who messes up the least rather than who blows us away....

Last night was a bit boring really. The right person went.
Agree with comments about Dan trying to play the happy chappy role, but you can see the competitive streak behind his eyes. I don’t blame him for being competitive, he should have just owned it a bit more. Josh for example is clearly a perfectionist and quite competitive, and I don’t think anyone holds it against him. Dan should have just been himself a bit more and he wouldn’t have got so much flack.
Matty is humble, and has improved the most. Josh is accurate and precise but a bit boring. Dan is creative which I love, but takes risks, and is chaotic.
I don’t really mind who wins at this point.

I’m not bothered who wins. I haven’t been as invested in the bakers as I usually am. I wondered if it was because in recent series they have had to live there as a bubble due to the pandemic whereas now they don’t. But I remember the early BBC series and loved people like Catherine, Sarah-Jane and Nancy to name a few!
