Great British Bake Off 2023

When Paul and Prue talk about the technical outside and have a taste before judging have they made it themselves? Or do they just write the recipe?

I loved the start of this years Bake Off. with Alison’s bubbliness and working well with Noel.. the challenges getting back to basics and not shite theme weeks..
I agree! The start of the show I really enjoyed but it seems quite dead now - I feel like Noel doesn’t want to be there anymore, Paul would just spend all the time eye bleeping himself if he could, Prue seems to be relegated to second place after Paul which is ridiculous as she is more experienced. The only thing I like is Alison, I think she works well. I don’t know who they could use to replace Paul and Noel, it’s something my Mum and I have talked about over the past few weeks - she thinks Andi Oliver (to replace Noel) is good and whilst I do like her I don’t think she would work in this set up. I think if Paul was to be replaced it would be great if they went for a younger man? But I don’t know if it needs freshening up or it’s that the formula is dead. But I really enjoy the Junior version, really looking forward to that. Love Rav and Liam!

When contestants won star baker I swear they used to be awarded a bake off apron? Or am I dreaming that?

I think James Martin could work well as a judge

You cannot tell me we have ever had a cast as good as that years cast. This was the year I properly fell in love with Bake Off. There has been some great Bakers since, Tamal, Luis, Nancy, Paul, Andrew, so many. But no year overall was as good as them.

Brendan the Bakernator was bleeping robbed, and Paul hated how 70's a lot of his bakes were.

Cathryn and Sarah-Jane were iconic. "Why am I crying over cake?", "Oh my Giddy aunt!", and the iconic dough slapping disaster resulting in Cathryn refusing to serve Mary Berry green carpet (she had no issue serving it to Paul of course).

James and his knitwear.

Danny was just a BAMF. first aiding John as well when required.

John wasn't the irritating prick he is now, but was a cute little twink and salted his rum bah-bahs.
Omg I loved Nancy too.
I agree this was my favourite year.

It'd never happen, but I do think getting Nigella as a judge would inject much-needed freshness and put the show back to its meme-worthy best.

'Mee-cro-wah-vay' shows she has the talent to push Bake Off back to that level of cultural input. After all, what other meme/attention-worthy phrases have gotten into popularity from Bake Off since soggy bottoms and the Hollywood handshake?

I honestly don't think that any bakes this year have made me go "wow".
While they are all far better bakers than I could ever be, none of them have really caught my attention and made me think here's someone who could make a real go at baking as a career, or that baking is their calling.

I bake (and sell cakes) and have spent the whole of this series thinking how bad their bakes look. The only thing that’s made me go “wow” was Dana’s isomalt flower box, that was beautiful but it’s also really easy to make as isomalt is so stable and easy to work with.
