Great British Bake Off 2023

I think there is a bit of a dearth of personality this year- rowan was shown a lot because he's one of the only ones who has any funny quips. Josh and Matty and Dan seem too focused, Cristy literally just says "oh yes" 90% of the time, Tasha seems to be given leeway at all times (coming third with raw pastry seemed bizarre). I love Saku- seems to be the only one left who is likeable

Anyone know why they make the contestants wear the same clothes on both days? It’s something I’ve only recently noticed. I doubt it’s for continuity because openly discuss the bakes of the day before.
I’ve wondered this a while now and wondered if they had 2 sets of the same clothes. Because, heat of the kitchen, depending on what they are baking could be messy work, would they not smell and the clothes be a bit dirty for day 2??

I thought that they said her potato was raw rather than the pastry?

I'll say it because everyone is skirting around it, they want Tasha to win because she is deaf. I don't know why it's a disadvantage to her as a baker because she could have, and obviously has had in her past, visual timers etc, but let's be honest. They had a deaf contestant win Strictly (which must have been hard, music, rhythm etc), c4 must be wanting the same

It is to make editing the show easier. Someone might say or do something on day one that fits the narrative better on day two. So they can slip it in without any hassle if everyone is dressed the same on both days.
I always find it great how the women manage to get their hair styles and makeup exactly the same for both days. One contestant one year wore winged eyeliner and I knew if that was me I wouldn’t be able to repeat it perfectly the second day!

I think this is a really outdated way of looking at things. The same way that 20/30 years ago people would have said that Alison only got the role ‘because she’s black’.

Sorry I disagree, it's a bit naive to think it doesn't play a part. Is it the 'only' reason? Of course not. But if you don't think people behind the scenes are having discussions about the positive PR and being diverse then you're sadly wrong.

Personally I think it helps people get on to the show (eg there's always the young one, the old one, good mix of british regions, some people of non-white heritage in various forms) but doesn't necessarily guarantee they'll make it through the rounds

No they need to be good too, but it also plays a part in decision making in things like editing etc.

Mental health and diversity are probably the two biggest buzz words at the moment and companies/organisations like to have good PR.

Like gay pride, rainbows everywhere until its over and companies don't mention it again.

Oh yeah they absolutely have to be good as well. But there must be 1000s of good bakers who apply to the show who don't get in!

I love Tasha and her being deaf has nothing to do with it, but I do agree it’s part of the casting like the other poster mentioned. Like the one year there was the baker with only one “regular” arm/hand (sorry I don’t know how else to word it someone correct me if there’s a better term!). I don’t think she was an amputee it was a condition she was born with

Of course they normally try and cast diverse contestants which is a good thing and they obviously have to be of a very high standard too but with Tasha you can tell they want her to WIN like its not enough just to have her included. They definitely want that 'first deaf/disabled winner, isn't it fantastic!!' moment like strictly which is fine if she's actually the best but if theyre saving her at the expense of better bakers then it's insulting to the audience (and the deaf community imo).

Dan’s teeth make me feel sick, they’re so yellow.

Cristy is a boring drip and is still only there because Paul fancies her.

Matty reminds me of a povvo version of Charles Leclerc so I now keep referring to him as “Povvo Leclerc” 😂

I love Saku but she will be out next week I think.

I really hope Dana wins
