Gavin and Stacey

I bought a Christmas TV guide and it says Gavin & Stacey have three kids. The romance is gone but they still love each other. Nessa and Smithy aren't together but are "making it work" I can't wait to watch it on Christmas Day, I just hope it lives up to all of our expectations!

The owe Wayne Hughes thing isnā€™t actually a joke, itā€™s just nonsense. Itā€˜S meant to show how out of his depth Gavin feels in Wales compared to Essex because it makes no sense ā€” played up as some sort of welsh in joke except itā€™d not. šŸ˜†

I always thought the "owain Hughes" joke was...
"I'm owain Hughes... And before you ask, no I don't!"

Because in a Welsh accent to me it sounds like "I'm owing yous..." As in owe you money or a favour šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ™ˆ
But surely that logic would make sense more to someone without a welsh accent listening in. A welsh person would more clearly be able to distinguish between the name owain and the word ā€œowing.ā€ Or at least thereā€™s not much reason a welsh ear would spot it over an English one. Also the theory makes sense but only half, you know what I mean? Itā€™s not fully convincing. Itā€™s not even really a joke, certainly not up to Gavin and Stacey standards. But the idea that itā€™s just this abstract nonsense joke showing cultural differences is way more their style...

(Wouldnā€™t actually recommend watching the ad tho.)
Iā€™m watching the 08 special at the advice of you above. Iā€™ve only seen it once or twice so really enjoying it. Haha Gav sat on Santa Nessā€™s lap ....

ā€œOi Gav itā€™s not all about you and Iā€™ve got other kids to see now be on your way.ā€

Oh oh oh. Merry Christmas.

ā€œThereā€™s no way Iā€™m doing Christmas without my Michaelā€™s turkey. No way blasĆ©.ā€
Pam is such a genius.

Also watching it now another thing l like is how believable they are as a family. Gav and his dad talking about the job heā€™s keeping secret seems really likes father son bond and the way Pam dotes on them both (and they both say they are talking about turkey at the same time)
That sort of stuff makes the programme just as strong as the comedy. Every detail is so perfect isnā€™t it ?

Haha even Petes poor catatonic mum has a similar bemused look to him !

Pam is my absolute fave. The script writing is perfection IMO. I have a soft spot for James Corden as well.

When she tries to wolf whistle for Dave while Gav is on her knee hahahahahha
Ha yeah and the way itā€™s not addressed that she canā€™t do it, a lesser comedy would have some line about ā€œIā€™ve got a cold my whistling isnā€™t up to scratchā€ but Gavin and Stacey would never do that. Itā€™s leaves so much hanging in the air, which strangely makes this odd moments feel realer but also so much funnier.

And the sad bits are actually sad! You feel for smithy when Dave is taking over stuff with his son and then proposes. Again, in a lesser comedy you wouldnā€™t feel real sympathy with the larger than life comedy foil character like that, they just wouldnā€™t be that well written. And his and Gav ā€˜s relationship is more like a female friendship, you rarely see fictional male friendships so strong and emotional. Itā€™s brave. I love it.
