I'm rooting for Finland. But thing is the cultural gulf is vast the days, you have countries around since the very early days, and countries more recent. It's never really a level playing field these days as there remains a division between the jaded longtime countries and the newer ones. Look at Germany, they clearly cannot be arsed based on recent entries. UK (until Sam Ryder) too. France and Italy occasionally try.

It's exciting for some countries but not so much for others. But then the political map of Europe has changed a few times even since the contest began

The thing is, there's a whole pre-competition going on here every year, called "our song for <insert hosting city>, and every year some "jury" picks absolutely shite songs. This year is actually a lot better than recent years, but for not being arsed, we spent a lot of money on sending someone even the most amusical person could tell wouldn't survive the semi-finals if Germany didn't pay to enter the finals for a chunk of the event with the big 5.

Italy occasionally try.
I think Italy always sends top quality songs tbh, though there’s a few weak years (last year included)

Their “selection” is a whole event in itself but the format seems to mean that more often than not they end up with a ballad which has the potential to be good but also boring

Italy left for years, but yeah

My favourite Eurovision performance- also Moldova (same band maybe?). Got loads of votes from both Ireland and the UK🤣

Yeah it's same band to me these guys are legends think they were 1st Moldovan representatives in 2005 got a good result there then came back in 2011 and did well and then last year too so qualified 3 times in technically 3 different decades think last year was my favourite though who could hate a song about trains 😂 plus I remember nearly falling asleep through the 6 in a row ballads and woke right up and started dancing when this came on

Oh yeah, now I remember that about last year too!🤣

What is everyones favourite 'I can't believe it didn't win' song? Obviously Sam should have won last year so he doesn't count.

My favourites are Ukraine's Verka singing 'Dancing Lasha Tumbai'. How that lost to Serbia I will never know.

My other one is Sweden's 'Popular' by Eric Saade. Absolute banger that is still played regularly in my car.
