We’ve seen very very little about the very real issues that come from having a child with Down’s syndrome. The school your child can go to, will they have to attend an SEN school? If Mainstream, how will the school protect against bullying? Do you take the risk? Can they do exams? What happens when they finish school? Can they work? Are they able to leave the house independently? Catch a bus or the tube? When she gets her period, can she manage sanitary towels? If not, do you get her an implant? That’s a big decision. What happens to the support from the government when she turns 18 and it all drops away…Have Billy and Honey thought about what will happen to Janet when they die if she can’t live independently? Do they expect William to care for her, or will she go into an adult residential home? What financial provisions are they making for Janet?
There are a million more things that need to be thought about and done in this situation.

It’s quite obvious that they haven’t even bothered to do the basic research if talk to people with a downs member of the family and it’s pretty disgusting imo.

But they have made made storylines/discussions about working, bullying, GCSES, social media, her agent for modelling, Will looking out for her when they grow up, their struggles to come to terms with everything when she was born, janet trying to be more independent and honey being overprotective

I'm not trying to turn this into a big thing. My point is she's been there since she was born (and there were years were will and Janet moved away when honey and Billy broke up) and shows like this don't give child actors a lot of storylines because of time/legal reasons

They’ve certainly given 13 year old Lily enough storylines.

I completely forgot about Janet’s character. Why introduce a down syndrome person into the cast and not use her for any storylines that could help parents that have a down syndrome child you’re so right it’s a absolute insult to the down syndrome community and the character

Yeah, the same I’m so fed up of Jack and Denise they didn’t really have any on-screen chemistry anyway and was never really right for each other. It’s getting to be a bit boring and Denise was all over Ravi. She’s a complete hypocrite.

The script writers need to hurry up and split him and Elaine up they just aren’t for each other

I’m obviously the minority here but I have zero interest in a Janet storyline; I want murders affairs and coverups not a storyline about anyone navigating getting their first period, first home or going to college.
ultimately it’s an entertainment show, and I’d find those stories as boring as family dinners (excluding the panesars) and Sonia and Reiss.

I'm with you. I'm here for the OTT drama, affairs, murders, hot guys like Ravi and Phil's baseball bat 😄

I also have no interest in Janet anymore than the rest of the kids on the square. She makes an appearance every now and then but I don't think the actress would be capable of carrying a storyline (even one as lame as the vaping).

I used to smoke and then swapped to a vape and my mother was HORRIFIED. She insisted I get back on the fags 😂😂😂

That’s why I hope they don’t go down the pregnancy route with Stacey in this storyline. Another kid to be hidden away in that Tardis house of hers.
 
Not much interest in a standalone storyline for Janet. She is as much a part of the square as the rest of the teens and younger actors, it’s not Hollyoaks and I can’t think of anything worse then focussing on the teens or kids. Nothing I hate more than being hit over the head with an issue of the weak storyline. Done properly they can be great but often they aren’t, viewers get bored and often they give these storylines to characters that don’t warrant months and months of screen time devoted to them ( the funeral couple. Stuart and whatsherface and the baby and male post natal depression comes to mind/ Reiss and Sonia/Jean and Harvey and the run up to their wedding)

When Janet was first born they devoted a lot of time to Billy and Honey dealing with it as new parents. Since she has been back they have touched on it again during the Lola stuff. To have another arc focussing on Janet wouldn’t be great, especially as it would mean devoting more air time to a family that pretty much dominated last year with the Lola storyline.
