Why does nobody retire in EastEnders? Kathy is 71, still working full time, Patrick must be in his 80s, still working at the Vic, Dot was working till she was 90 and I'm sure both Pat and Peggy worked after retirement age. Why?
Otherwise their retired lives would be so boring and they’d be abroad in Benidorm for half the year (not like they don’t do that too) or out on OAP daytrips away from the Square, but those could be fun!

I guess Kathy's hopes of a peaceful retirement were taken away from her first by Ian disappearing so she had to take over his business and then when Ian returned she lost her home as well. Of course marrying a complete waste of space bellend like Rocky didn't help either. Poor Kathy doesn't have much choice now she owes loads of money.

Dot worked because she wanted to and Patrick only collects a few glasses in the Vic now and then.

Here’s some nostalgic explosions c/o EE over the years, the chaos and overacting from some of the actors 😬

ps don’t watch if watching the Classic EE at the mo

Dramatisation may not have happened 😂

Most EE characters are idiots when it comes to money, so I assume they aren’t saving for retirement. Like it never occurs to Ian to go and get a job as a chef in the city when his fifth restaurant goes out of business. Or there will be a house with six able bodied adults who could all get quite well paid jobs in London, but who won’t be able to afford milk and bread. It’s Walfordeconomics.

I'm having to bridge the gap with 2008-2011, an era with characters somehow more insufferable than Vinnie the Mini and Karen (although Karen was good in yesterday's ep)
Me too I watch the 2008-2011 on the weekends 🤣 is there a thread for them I’ve been trying to look for ages
