I decided to go back and watch Doctor Foster after drawing comparisons of that, and Through Her Eyes, the other day.

Has anyone else watched, or re-watched it recently? Would love to hear your thoughts. I feel it was so incredibly well written.

It's interesting seeing Gemma's personality change as she deals with the betrayal ... she seems to develop more empathy with other people in her life than she did previously. I'm only on episode 2 so will keep on watching. I have seen it all before, but it was quite some time ago.

If you haven't seen it, it's fantastic! There are 2 seasons.

I don't think she was a very likable character (maybe that's why everyone sided with Simon?), and do agree that a second season wasn't needed.

It went a bit like the way of 'Cold Feet' for me ... perhaps too much of a good thing.

In the beginning, Gemma and Simon’s relationship seemed perfect. Meals together, affection, friendliness. Gemma was put together and professional at work, their family seemed balanced. Simon’s cheating messed this all up, but it’s SO dramatically catastrophic. Gemma seems to have become a completely different person. Immediately, she was unprofessional at work. Eventually, she was batshit. She schemes to catch people doing something wrong constantly, as if that’s her only role in life anymore. She acts like Tom is her main priority after ignoring him nearly entire season 1- making it seem more like having Tom is about sticking it to Simon. You would never guess she could be so shallow and selfish when her character is first introduced. Being cheated on by a long term partner is certainly devastating, but it’s weird how it’s consumed the entire identity of someone who seemed to wear several hats in the beginning.

Has anyone seen 'Life' which came out last year?

I found out today that Gemma's neighbours from across the road played the same characters in that ("Belle" lived in the big house, and "Neil" came to see her when he was about to marry another woman). There was no reference made to Dr Foster in "Life" - perhaps there should have been, to tie it together?

It's probably one of those shows where they would have been better to leave it with one season and keep people guessing as to what might have evolved over time. Gemma was batshit crazy in S2 and not at all likable.
