They do this kind of thing on Dancing with the Stars and I really dont like it. It’s very emotionally manipulative, because not everyone has suffered a tragedy or bereavement but the sob story will always win. Sorry if that sounds harsh.

It always disadvantages the younger contestants (who naturally will have less to talk about) and sometimes it feels exploitative.

No idea what I would do if asked to go the sob story route.

Young and fresh energy - what the show needs, not the soon to be 45 year old Matt Evers (and a few others over 40 as well). Not being ageist but youth can bring something new to the show.
