Dalgliesh

This is new to channel 5. Started on Friday. Its actually pretty good. Bertie Cavell is the lead character.
I've watched all the episodes so far and I prefer Bertie to the actor who played the part of Dalglish in the previous TV series. I've been a fan of Bertie since he was 'Jonathan Strange'.

While he always delivers I'm not sure about how well it's working as a series so far. It's lacking in dramatic tension or there's something about the pacing that isn't quite right.

I will watch to the end though (just for Bertie) 😃

I read some of the books a long time ago, but can't remember what Dalgleish was like in them. I remember better the Roy Marsden TV version because I really liked the way he portrayed Dalgleish - he was gentle and kind, a normal likeable man with just the right amount of charm. I've just seen a trailer for this new version, and it seemed rather dark and sinister, Dalgleish coming across as rather flat and charmless. So I'm not sure this version will be one for me. But I'm glad that Channel 5 are doing more drama, so I'll certainly give it a chance.

Channel 5 drama has certainly improved. They've done well sticking with the time period and not trying to modernise it which wouldn't work.

PD James was in love with her gentleman detective and made him a poet to bring out his sensitive side.
I always found it funny that people i the books were aware of his poetry. In reality its almost impossible to get poetry published because so few people read it.

Anyway Bertie is lovely ❤
